It's not a matter of siding with the casino; just being realistic that they are very rarely going to pay out of their own pocket in a situation like this.

A casino in London has a sign on the wall that chips are left on the tables at player's risk.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here, but even if they recognize the guy, it's going to be hard to prove he took your stack on purpose, or that your stack had 17k more chips than his.

Plus, Czechs in general don't really like Russians, and probably wouldn't care if you lost 17k. Call it an invasion tax.

I play poker in Prague all the time, and I'd never leave my stack unattended for more than a few minutes. I'd do the same in Russia, obviously.

Sucks that it happened, though. Sorry.

I wouldn't expect the casino to pay me but I would expect them to phone the police and show them the footage

Yeah, I am sure you will find your chip stack in his pocket or anus 3 days later.

i know this has already been written a bunch of times but i saw this situation first hand take place a while back (though i wasn't involved) and spoke with a super friendly management supervisor about it who just seemed to enjoy talking to me about this stuff for 30 minutes.

basically, the casino does not give two ****s about money it doesn't control. you can play a cash game, call an all-in and lose, not put your chips in the middle and they can't do a single thing to force you to pay. they will probably ban you from the casino once you walk out but you will leave with your full stack. i hate giving ideas to degen scumbags but seriously, anyone can do this any time. you may have to put up a fight but if you stand strong, you can keep the money and walk out.

the same goes for stealing chips from other players or anything else along those lines. they aren't casino controlled chips, they are player chips. the casino simply doesn't give a **** and legally they can't really get involved either because that is how the law is written. he explained this to me years ago, i forget the intricacies.

however, if you tried to steal the rake bucket, game the casino by cheating at one of their house games, or do a single thing that involves theft vs. the casino, then you have all of hell to pay. do not ever try to cross those lines or you are in for a world of hurt.

so yeah, just think about who controls the chips, how much you trust the establishment and the situation and react responsibly. this **** will keep happening for the rest of time so it really is largely the responsibility of the player (even though in a perfect world it shouldnt be).

Are there that many gingers in Prague?

^ I imagine very few. A couple of Americans who worked for me in Slovakia had a bet to see if they would spot 10 black people before 10 ginger people. It took more than 2 weeks, but black people actually won over gingers - although they were hanging out on the main street where there are more tourists.

I would never leave my stack at a foreign casino table like that, especially one that may be a temporary set-up like in a hotel or something that's just there for the tournament series. But yeah, the dealer and floormen are supposed to protect stacks at the table when tables break, etc. Horrible management from the casino.

An easy solution for this, that I've seen before, is an acrylic type box that you put over your chips when you know you'll be gone for a while on a dinner break. The casino should provide these. That way chips are protected and other players can take your seat and "play over" your stack until you return, if they so choose. I think Bellagio does this, I don't remember, but I know some casinos do this.

St.Louis is actually decent at something? Go figure.

We get $1 an hour and if you play for 5 hours straight you get a free buffet coupon(worth like $20) or you can use that coupon as $10 off at any of the other eateries or deli. I never have to pay for food there.

Read the OP. It specifically says there is video camera evidence of a man stealing his chips.

And if you say the casino holds no responsibility in the loss of players' chips due to theft, what is stopping anyone from stealing ANYONE'S chips at the table and running for the exit? "Woop, can't do anything about. It's not our chips. Tough luck, guy."

To avoid this from happening, am I allowed to take 100 dollar bills or chips from my stack with me while I go to the bathroom?

The casino may bear no legal responsibility in such a loss, but they do have business interests. They don't want this to happen. It's just that they will only go so far into helping you once it does, as the OP has unfortunately found.

+1 on a plastic cover or something like that. I always put my hat (or something similar) on my chips when I step away to the restroom. Sure, it's not exactly a locked-down fortress, but it's one extra little deterrent simply because it would become more obvious to the other players and/or staff should some random passer-by try to reach under there and Whojedi himself a chip or two.

It's almost certainly the latter and I'd say he succeeded.

That was a strange moment though. Freddy was smiling right along with everyone else, even joking to Todd Brunson that he put $100K in his pocket. Things didn't really heat up until Sheiky said something like, "You obviously do it all the time, that's why we asked." Then he snapped. So yeah, it does make me wonder if Freddy has faced past accusations or even incidents in which he was caught.

Stealing from the Russians doesn't seem like a wise move.
