Yes the 4 bet wasn't awful and it was great bet sizing as Barry Hutter can't peel, he has to shove or fold. Her bet sizing would also give him the impression that perhaps he has no fold equity if he shoves so might push his 5 bet hand strength shoving range requirement up.

I don't know how Barry Hutter plays, but her 4 bet, bet sizing maybe gets him to pass some middle pairs like 88 and 99 but then is he really 3 betting with middle pairs given his stack size?, or is he peeling the initial raise in position with those kind of hands. I think the latter as he has some great implied odds and he is in position against an aggressive player. Plus there is also another player to act.

I would think that the 10 minutes thinking time by Cate was to evaluate how many pairs 99 or lower were in his range.

On balance I don't like her 4 bet against a good player because I think with his stack size and against her specifically his 3 bet range is quite strong and his perception of her 4 bet range is that her range is not super strong and is mainly Ax hands.

Having said all of the above, playing aggressively in that spot like she did *is* one of the ways to get chips and even when it goes wrong you can get lucky when you call off as a 28/72 underdog and have a great playing and bullying stack afterwards if you win the pot.

I mean, she's not wrong. There are probably a variety of explanations as to why poker is unwelcoming to women.

But as a counterpoint I would mention that poker is pretty much unwelcoming to everyone. It's a game where you are in close quarters trying to punish and take money off of your opponents. I've seen and heard men treat each other horribly. The (mis)treatement of women probably gets a lot more publicity and there are a lot more people on the sidelines that are willing to stick up for the girls.

A strange irony here is that Cate specifically has likely benefited a great deal in poker due to her genitalia.

My live exp is limited, and the only time i've ever actually seen women playing is during timbeys and one time an older woman played like 5 orbits at commerce at my table, so i'll acknowledge my opinion should be weighted pretty light but,

i do think there is a bit of truth to woman taking personal insults a bit more seriously, like aggressive table talk, calling people idiots/generally making fun of them/their play is super std, can't think of a time i've played live cash more than a couple hours without some ish getting tossed around.

that being said i could see how a game mostly played by older men could be v uninviting, but when i hear "i was verbally abused ect.." i do truly wonder how bad it really was and if it warrants any special attention brought to it, obv the sexual stuff is gross and has no place anywhere, but standard up to mean banter i dont think is a gender thing, just a game/gambling thing
