Mike Dentale is 271st in the player of the year GPI rankings and 333rd in the GPI overall rankings.

* The algorithm the GPI rankings uses does in part reward higher levels of playing activity so this favours Cate Hall's ranking more than it does Mike Dentale's.

Cate Hall is the 465th most popular (most searched) player on The Hendon Mob and Mike Dentale is the 598th most popular.

In the last 7 days Cate Hall has had 189% more searches on The Hendon Mob than in the previous 7 days and Mike Dentale 805% more searches than in the previous week.

So both of the players are a factor in live MTTs and significant players on the circuit and both players have already massively benefited from the Twitter spat and the subsequent HU4Rollz challenge.

You can't help thinking that unless one or other of the players totally embarrasses themselves with their standard of play in the HU challenge, that this whole episode is win, win, win for both players.

I had never heard of either of these people until this thread. Are there any reasons why people care about a grudge match between 2 random douches?

Cate Hall was very well known even before this and Mike Dentale was definitely well known particularly in the geographical area that he mainly plays in, East Coast USA (and Vegas).

I think it is unfair and unwarranted to call either or both of them douches unless you have first hand personal experience of this, and if you have that you can be sure that what you have seen reflects them in day to day outside of poker life and is not just their live poker persona/behaviour and/or social media persona/behaviour.

A lot of younger, and especially younger female poker players are very opinionated, perhaps abnormally so on Twitter. A lot of male poker players in poker rooms are, or act, like alpha males and with it use a lot of bravado.

We therefore don't usually know who the real person is as poker often greatly accentuates a person's real personality and in some cases players deliberately create a poker persona for varying reasons.

Poker is a game confined to an arena of battle, it is not real life.

This is why I would rather look at and try to figure out who is the better player, who will adapt better in the HU match and other poker related factors associated with it.

Lol me either but last week I played with dentale twice in 5 10 and I glanced over and saw a girl playing in the 10k with a distinctive tattoo on her arm then later on was watching poker night in America and saw oh hey that's the girl I'm gonna look her up then I saw this nonsense going down and saw dentale was the dude I played against.

All I gotta say is if they were really what they say they are and have what they say they have they would play 100 200 at a minmum...2550 50100 is ok but the damage is not epic..both of these two are nothing..yea cate might have dough for hitting the lottery (ie tournaments) and Mike has money from his business..but none of their money at least significant amounts came from cash games which is the true test. Tourneys are a joke.

I'm pretty comfortable saying Dentale is a douche based on watching some PNIA footage on him and reading the 2p2 thread in which he was accused of cheating.

Yes it is pure show biz. The amounts of money at stake are minuscule compared to the level of mud slinging between the two players and the amount of poker world hype going on.

Any live 1/2 NLHE player could drum up $20K to $30K of backing across a number of poker friends if it was for a televised/streamed high profile match, so really these two should be playing for 3 x 50K freezeouts and risking $20K to $30K total of their own money towards it.

But like you say, The Jerry Springerish, voyeuristic element of this match up means they can get away with playing stakes that are far, far from a real HU4Rollz challenge.

Quit being so sensible. This isn't a real HU battle.

What don't you get...I was playing in the 5 10 and the 10k was going on..hall was in the 10k and dentale was in the 5 10...a few days later I recognized hall and dentale watching pnia and didn't realize it was them until then

I have nothing but respect for women playing poker. I'm sure Cate is a very good player in her own right, but I can't help but question her judgement when she decides to challenge a top pro like Dentale. No way this ends well for her.

Sure, I suppose there is luck and I guess she could win this matchup 2 out of 10 times but still I have to wonder what is going through her head. Is she just this angry/tilted that she is willing to make such a clearly -EV decision? Hopefully cooler heads will prevail. It would be really nice if Dentale showed her some mercy and let her off the hook on this. He already has the money and the accolades. He really doesn't need this at all.
