Couldn't the robber just get a buddy to sit in a high limit poker game with some of the chips? Sell them off to other players at the table etc? Doesn't seem like it would really be all that hard if he was willing to be patient. Could be good for the poker community too.

How the **** would that be good? If he inserted 1.5 million of 'fake' money into the poker economy that gets seized when they try to cash those chips, then in reality he didn't steal from Bellagio, but stole from the poker community if they are the ones who end up taking the hit because Bellagio won't honor the dirty chips.

Cliffs: Lots of people treat Bellagio chips just like cash. Author once heard a story about some guy donating a 5k chip to an anti-gambling charity to embarass a casino into honoring the rest of the chips. Using the magic of logic, the author then concludes that the best way for the robber to fence the chips is to donate a lot of them to charity.

I'm not sure which part of the article you are referring to, but there is a lot of truth in it. There was a thread right after the robbery where most everyone said "LOL dumb robber cant cash the chips they will know when he walks in the door".
That couldnt be further from the truth. With the exception of the $25k chips, cashing in the rest would be very easy if the robber was smart and patient. And the $25k chips wouldnt be out of the question.

$100, $500, and probably $1,000 chips would be easy to cash in. Using them to buy into a table game or poker game would be the best approach.

I'm sure their argument would be that it's not legitimately won if the chips were stolen to begin with.

They certainly wouldn't cash a counterfeit chip simply because it was won in a game.

Given the secondary market for Bellagio chips, you could probably find a good laywer (see Saul in Breaking Bad) to switch denominations for a premium. The premium would obv vary greatly depending on how much ppl buy into the RFID = chips are worthless story.

How many potentially worthless cranberries would you accept for a legit 5k chip? I'd probably chance a few k with a good sized roll.. If it worked I'd buy a boat and name it "Live Rakeback."
