I'm not in favor of violence but the anti-Cantu circlejerk is lame. I would never let someone disrespect me in public like that. They don't even know each other. If there is proof of Cantu being a cheater then that is one thing, but without evidence or history that is just such a low-blow. Cantu is right, you don't have to like him but accusing him of being a cheater by a player from a different table in an obviously stressful situation was a chicken sh** move.

So when's Maurice Hawkins and Brandon Cantu going to play heads-up? Maybe I can rent a booth at the Rio and sell buttery popcorn?

To clarify, @brandoncantu (not me) wrote "nobody should ever be nice to the dealers if they continue to deal as bad as they have been"

Sure Brandon's a crybaby, and sure nobody likes him, but is he actually wrong here? How was any of this Jesse's business?

I wonder if poker needs a rule whereby all action on the last betting round must be verbalized. I have seen instances where P1 taps, P2 taps, P1 tables, then P2 says he didn't check. P1 saw the check but dealer didn't, argument ensues, floor usually sides with P2 and gives him the option to bet.

It's often a clear angle shoot and I have seen it many times. Could be holdem with a few players seeing a flop which checks round only for an early or middle position player to yell out "I didn't check" even though they said nothing as people after him had checked. They wait until the last player checks then they speak up.

Jesse's whole defense for calling him a cheater was that Brandon admitted to "shooting an angle 5 years ago" in a video he hadn't even seen yet. He was just talking out of his a**, butting into a pot because his friend was in the hand.

Knowing he did exactly the opposite... we have a wild one that is bound to get into more awkward interviews giving poker a bad rap.

Out of nowhere, a guy in seat 6 on another table next to theirs (the Jesse mentioned upthread) stands and starts yelling at Brandon about how Brandon's opponent plays in Bobby's Room every f'ing day, and he's not an angle shooter; he knows how to play draw games.

This infuriates Brandon who then yells at the top of his lungs to Jesse "Shut the f up!"

Jesse: You're accusing him of shooting an angle, but you're the one shooting angles
Brandon: THAT'S WHAT HE JUST F'ING DID! HE SHOT AN ANGLE!!
Jesse: Nobody likes you Brandon!
Knowing nothing about him but the details of this exchange, Jesse dude seems like a ****ing idiot.

Open your mouth, cry when you get pushed. Really?

O RLY?

This nobody needs to know his roll and keep his mouth shut. He's obviously just trying to steal some of Brandon Cantu's shine. It's unfortunate that Brandon didn't just whoop his ass right then and there. That might have been exactly what Jesse Martin was looking for though. If this is the type of guy that Matt Szymaszek is best friends with, this makes Matt look really really bad.

I said I played with him alot over the years and never saw an angle shoot but couldnt comment until I had more details of the incident five years ago hed just admitted to.

He wouldn't provide the details....

The UB thing was completely irrelevant in that video. Storm in a teacup, let's move on with our lives.

Poker players really seem to need some PR training. Or a bucket of ice cold water.

Martin could have come out a pretty solid winner of the exchange, if he had condensed his interview to 1.5, maybe 2 minutes, instead of ranting on for 6 minutes. Especially riding out the UB theme (mentioning it is fine as a character statement, but not riding it out the way he did) and name dropping on behalf of his "best friend" in poker seemed ridiculous to me.

While he might not have been in the right to interfere in the discussion at the table, I might even understand it if there is some perceived bias in how floormen treat situations involving known players and unknowns, but the way he allegedly did it seemed way out of line.

The point he made in the interview, which is Cantu whining about being called an angle shooter after doing the same thing himself a couple of minutes earlier at the table, is actually very sound and the main reason he could've come out on top of the exchange, but by devaluing it with a lot of ranting about things which are not pertinent to the case and should, if all at all, only have been mentioned as a side note, seriously weakens his position.

He probably was tilting and needed to vent, especially after seeing the interview Cantu gave, but if is somewhat self reflecting, he will probably soon start to regret the way he presented himself in that video. Also, because it does not necessarily portrait his friend in the best light, particularly because someone who regularly plays at the biggest games in town should have a good enough understanding of poker dynamics to solve such a situation for himself.

I'm pretty certain as a relatively unknown poker player, I would 100% be banned from the Rio for the incident as describe, even if no punches were thrown... Which is bs.

What's the angle that Brandon is admitting to having shot 5 years ago? What did he do, and to whom?

Hi, I'm Jesse Martin. Just wanted to say quickly that the only reason I got involved is Brandon was repeating calling my friend a liar and angle shooter which is the most ridiculous claim ever. I understand as an outsider you could think I shouldn't have gotten involved and maybe I shouldn't have...but

I live by the code that if you are one of my best friends and also happen to be one of the top 1 percent of honorable people in the world (the guy honestly has as squeaky clean of am image and reputation as you could imagine) then I am gonna come to your defense regardless if it's my place or not when I see someone like
Cantu not only attacking you but winning the argument based on how loud he is yelling and how well known he is.

Lordfoos post of what happened was basically spot on (post #45) I just wanted to emphasize that the only reason I got involved is when he starts calling one of my best friends a liar and angle shooter completely unwarranted. The guy plays big cash games everyday you think he is gonna angle shoot in the first 3 hours of a $1500 tournament that he is playing just to have fun and take a day off from the grind? The whole thing is quite ridiculous and regrettable.

Anyways, carry on

Just re-read what I wrote, not the best piece of writing I have ever done but I think it basically got the poiny across. Sorry it's been a long day

- also regarding the Main Event final table, I misspoke and meant "feature table" as I said on twitter

- regarding the UB thing, I don't see how that is not relevant, Cantu has a terrible reputation in poker. The UB thing definitely makes the list. Google it a bit, he has quotes about how much he trusts Annie Duke and how UB is doing the right thing now etc. He was with them (and also absolute poker) through all the evil years.

Anyways, I respect the 2+2 community and am fine with getting bashed a bit, just wanted to let you guys know where my head was at. It was quite a titling day in a tournament that should have been (and was for the most part) one of the most fun days of the summer.
