Thanks a lot PPA for basically stiffing us without really giving your members the proper time to discuss this 15 month lockout for ALL americans. You have ruined a lot of lives without really giving proper consideration. Maybe you do feel it is worth the insanely high price, but you sure didn't give the poker community much time (and by much time, i mean ZERO) to discuss it.

If you are smart enough to be a pro poker player, you are probably smart enough to survive some other way for 15 months.

ha, is that really the point? there are a ton of poker pro's and they all have different circumstances. for some this will be devastating. for others it may be no big deal. but it certainly isnt ok to just assume because it is no big deal for you, that it isnt for someone else.

ugh, didn't mean to troll and not sure how i am?

i made two threads in total, and made this one in NVG because i really think people need to know ASAP that there is about to be a 15 month blackout for all americans and most are unaware. NVG has a ton of readers, so i thought it was a good way to spread the word. had no intention of being some troll.

Leave the thread open, this is a very legitimate topic to discuss. I for one will be one of the people hurt a ton by this bill.

Wow this sucks hardcore for me if passed. I am playing to put me through college. I might be forced to go to b&m casino and make my living there if this is the case... My closest b&m casino is an hour away though.... sick commute...

I do know it'll be good in the long run but I am not prepared for something like this.... I can't just move to another country either...

Seems like there's constant talk about poker getting legalized soon. The only question I have is, what are the chances of this bill getting passed? Is this likely to happen, or still a long-shot?

A lot of number are floating around but the odds of this legislation getting attached to a bill that will pass is prob 50% at the most according to a lot of sources on 2p2.

Oh hell, there go those supposedly soft live games I wanted to try out this year.

Bye bye plentiful casual players (if you did indeed ever really exist), hello kiddies in hoodies and sunglasses.

lol how exactly is this guy trolling? The PPA certainly isn't going out of its way to inform its members, but this obviously has a huge impact.

The kool-aid certainly does taste better going down then coming up.

lol. Berge had initially said 5%, I don't know if he has revised that estimate, but his guess is way, way better then most of the mouth breathers.

I hate to be a pain in the ass, but considering this is in NVG anyway and not all of us read the Legislation forum could someone please provide me with some cliffs of this bill? What I wanna know most is:

-How likely is it to get passed
-Will the new sites (after 15 month blackout) be American only? If so I'm guessing other players just have to do with the leftover players on FTP or Stars or go to euro sites?
-During this 15 month blackout period, is there no way Americans can play online poker (barring ways around the law, proxys maybe or w/e)

Stars and FTP will be seeking a license (according to Skallagrim), so they will pull out. Bodog or Serial, Cake, etc may be options.

While I don't play for a living, I support the legislation. I understand the concern of being cutoff from the major sites by those who make their livings that way, but I think this is a sacrifice that you will have to be willing to make if you would like to sustain this line of work.

There will probably be sites like Bodog who will illegally stay in the market during the lockout, giving players an option to play and generate income.

Once this lockout period is over, it should be a much more "player-friendly" environment. It should give us the ability to make financial transactions with ease, protections against cheating players/sites, greater competition for our business (which will drive downs the fees we pay and increase the incentives we receive), etc.

If we don't get this legislation through, my opinion is that payment processors are going to continue to be systematically eliminated.......to the point that you either won't be able to get the money that you'ved earned or the fees to process these transactions will be so great that they will make it nearly impossible to profit.

started as 5%-50% but now the PPA guys seem to be talking VERY confidently about it
-Will the new sites (after 15 month blackout) be American only? If so I'm guessing other players just have to do with the leftover players on FTP or Stars or go to euro sites?
i think they are talking of a long period after the blackout where it is usa only

correct. i imagine it would be similar to trying to play on party. there is a chance that a site like bodog could remain, but that isn't much consolation
bolded

He has created virtually the same thread in the legislation forum, as well as generally making the same exact posts over and over again. This is a Harry Reid (Harrahs) bill, not a PPA bill. The PPA supports it because they believe it's in our best long term interests. I believe they are working to change the bill making it better for us, which is all we can ask for at this point.

If this bill is going to go through it will have happened with or without the PPA. Remove all this anti PPA garbage, and obviously its worthy of discussion.

Well folks looks like its time to stock back up on hand sanitizer, wash all my hoodies/sweats, and reorganize my ipod playlists. Back to the live poker...is it true live limit holdem is dead???

Hell after two months of playing live poker, I better sharpen up my butter knife so I can cut into my wrists easier after seeing only 20-25 hands an hour....oh god.

I know its for the best....
