No one would back off the labor day weekend crowd potential and the result was 5 major events being run on the same weekend, most with huge guaranteed prize pools.

I predicted months ago that florida and winstar should run on separate weekends or risk not meeting guarantees. Then three more huge events chose the same dates.

Next weekend is wide open and would have brought any of the five a much higher crowd.

As it stands, two or three of these events may fall short, with the potential of a multimillion shortfall in florida.

Is this the end of casinos stepping out to offer huge guaranteed events?

What's to stop any of these casinos from not fulfilling the guarantee anyway? I hope that this doesn't happen as I made day 2 of SHPRO but what really are the repercussions? A backlash from the community? We've already shown that we don't care about gross increases in rake and tournament entry fees.

The bike had a $4 million "guarantee" with the new quantum reload feature. They stuck the word est. Next to the $4 million and fell short by almost $2million.

You really are a strange human. In what bizarre world does the word "estimated" translate to guarantee?

That's why I put guarantee in quotes. Other venues do this as well. The guarantees at all the venues this weekend are real ones, not estimated.

Big guarantees will not die but big overlays do make it obvious that casinos need to coordinate better amongst themselves. As you point out, if winstar and hardrock worked together on the scheduling they would both have bigger turnouts.

No to coordination. It's the free market - competition red in tooth and claw. Sometimes businesses lose money.

If the same tournaments run the same weekend next year, then the winner is going to be the one who keeps the guarantee.

Colorado Poker Championship:
Golden Gates Casino, Black Hawk, CO
$1,100 Buy-In, no guarantee

Playground Poker Montreal Festival
Playground Poker Club, Montreal, Canada
$1,100 Buy-In, $1M guaranteed prize pool

Gulf Coast Poker Championship

Beau Rivage Hotel and Casino, Biloxi, MS
$1,600 Buy-In, $300K guaranteed prize pool

2014 River Poker Series
Winstar World Casino, Thackerville, OK
$2,500 Buy-In, $1M guaranteed 1st place

2014 Poker Open
Seminole Hard Rock Casino, Hollywood, Florida
$5,300 Buy-In, $10M guaranteed prize pool

Perhaps the Winstar tournament competes with the Hard Rock, but I don't see the others drawing players away. The news is really just that the Hard Rock $10M Guarantee looks like it will fall far short of the guarantee, with a big overlay. Total entries so far: 777. Today is the last of the three Day Ones. They need 2000 entries total to match the $10M guarantee, but it's looking like there will be less than 1400, making for a $3M+ overlay.

A most deserved fate. This is what happens when you give out all the free seats to the 1/2 and 2/4 limit peasants who contribute nothing. The true players were robbed in this joke of a promotion.

Good work. The beau field assuming 200 players would take at least 25 players from Florida.

Winstar at least 100-150 of 1300 players

Playground maybe another 25-50 players of 1000 players

Colorado maybe 10 of 300

All guesstimates

Thats players not entries.

Double that number for entries since the avg buyin in Florida has to be at least two buyins per player.

Winstar has had Labor Day weekend for years. SHRPO was originally scheduled for last weekend and then moved at last minute.

Allen, there is an MSPT Event at Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee WI next weekend with a $200k Guarantee. I'm would guess they get more than double that. It's an open weekend and they just opened new hotel a week ago. I'm going to make the trip, hope to meet you there.

The ideal date for shrpo was next weekend. Last weekend conflict with legends and ept Barcelona. This weekend holiday and too much competition.

Horseshoe Cincy also has a significant event going now
$1500 buy-in, 500K guaranteed pool, $100K guarantee for first
315 runners for day 1a, but probably 200 of those were promo seats

Playground is going to meet the guarantee. They got 222 players for 1A, 307 so far with an hour left for registration in 1B, and I just called in and they said that 300 have already pre-registered for 1C, so that flight will inevitably sell out.

Allen is making the point that casinos basically never plan on having an overlay...they don't really make enough off the series to compensate (at least in their minds). So in general, they tend to lower or remove the guarantees if they miss one.

Last year everyone was excited about the florida series because there was nothing in august.

but obviously, other casinos have scheduled a bunch of things this weekend.

I don't think its the end of guarantees. But the casinos have to be able to have a really good understanding of their potential numbers. Because they are not interested in giving away a ton of money (unless its from a promotional fund which may be the case in a few places - than its player money and they obviously would not care as much.)
