Re: Barry Shulman displays rude, obnoxious behaviour.

Jeff Shulman seems like a cool dude. Laid back at the tables, interesting appearance - looks like he smokes pot and listens to jazz. From all accounts players do get crap treatment at the WSOP - good for him for raising a fuss! (I know nothing about his dad but if OP's story is correct then he is a douche, at least when playing. Pretty neat that father and son are killing the world series '09 though).

Interwebs. I feel like buying magazines is similar to paying rent (vs. paying a mortgage)....burning money.

wtf was that guy talking about Jerry Jones and Chik-fil-a talking about? That was like the most confusing post in the history of the internet? Chik-fil-a closes on Sundays because of Jerry Jones and God double teaming them was about all I could get from that.

Everytime I go into a magazine store, I'm going to hide all the Cardplayer magazines. Unite 2+2.

Meh, keep hearing these stories but nothing on audio or video. Might be true but sounds more like people have a vendetta against him for whatever reason more than anything else.

Re: Barry Shulman displays rude, obnoxious behaviour.

hey, when you run a magazine that is just a shill for your income, let your son now run it who has little respect for the WSOP (I admit it needs tuning) which is equivalent to every competitions major event, and refuse to stand-up for the right thing (that is unless it affects them) and name cheaters and the like and quit running dumass advice columns that occassionally are opposite of each other and 10-12 wasted 8x10 pics of soon to be back at their day jobs after they have their little poker runs. But stupid is as stupid does.

Angry Re: Barry Shulman displays rude, obnoxious behaviour.

Why is it that people think that it is cool or "have a vendetta" against them? As journalist who has had and continues to have many articles and interviews published by several publications (by the way owning a magazine or paper is one step above owning a restaraunt. Very few independents ever make any real money) it is my job to tell the truth as best as I know how. Money or fame is the very last thing, if at all, that drives my articles. I don't even know either Shulman personally. But I didn't have to meet George Bush to know how bad things were. Or the entities that snuck a ban on internet gambling with the port security bill who were just draconians with an agenda. But I wish it was only Barry who acted obnoxious. I have seen Scotty Nygen, Men, Phil H, John Bonetti (he made Shulman look like Mother Theresa), Mark Seif, and many others denigrate the game. Dealing is one of the hardest jobs if not thee hardest in poker. They are human beings who will, even the best, make mistakes. A polite and logical assesment is how you handle it then you go to the TD. Cursing, verbally abusing players, throwing cards, and violating rules are far more prevalent than bad dealers. There is no excuse for it and it should be given HARSH penalties until the children IE: players learn there are consequences. What most people failt to realize that poker has the most prize money of any professional competition. Only golf comes close. Yet it is given as much respect as a fly. Until it becomes a game that rules matter and decorum matters we will all be just writing rants on these forums.

That was good.

Use paragraphs next time. Kind of hard to read.

You'll act the same when you're old and senile.

I met OP, so I'm sure his experience is valid. However, I played with Barry in a super-satellite yesterday at Caesars and he seemed pretty friendly. We can both agree that he's not good at poker, though.

Well you obviously didn't read through all of the posts because the point is crystal clear which is you do not have to like the way a business operates to want or need their services, i.e. Barry Shulman and Cardplayer, i.e. Jeff Shulman playing in WSOP despite hating Harrah's... Reading comprehension ftw

So Barry is playing at Caesars, maybe OP tells it like it is......don't see why he would make it up.....
