a. you have mistaken him for someone who is not terrible at his job

why is he a douche? he wants to filter the internet 'portal's with a big brother style internet filter to protect the children from child pron but it just so happened that his big list of sites to be filtered contained regular porn, euthanasia sites and of course all the main poker sites (but don't blame him, he didnt actually come up with teh list - how convenient). He allegedly had to put it in the backburner because the current government is a minority government that will very likely become a minor party when they get soulcrushed at the next election.

Conroy doesn't even know the proper terms for the internet ... and the scary thing is he is the current Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy. true story bro.

so yeah, if you want politicians like him .... I can do better. why don't you just take him? he wont be missed.

It would be a nice change for the aussies, but the big winners are of course the advertisers

no idea what they are proposing so can only speculate on what will happen, but my guess would be that some good in terms of legit australian companies companies offering games, making it legit for pokerstars etc, which will obviously mean funds being safer will come at some cost which will possibly include higher rakes, smaller player pools. But who knows they might suprise us yet.

I was told about this in regards to online poker in April but was asked to keep it to myself. I'm told that only tournament poker will be allowed, not cash games. Odd I know but this is what a reliable source (non poker player) has told me.

Re: Australia set to trial legal online poker?

I was planning to go to Australia by next month to visit my sister. Since I knew all this things is this means that poker online in Australia will be banned like in US? Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just worried about this news

Was thinking this exact same thing!

Edit: With these kinds of changes the best case scenario is higher rake.

Anyone who plays on smaller traffic sites knows there are inherent risks. Anyone who plays on stars is 100% safe.
This is not an issue which Govt. would do well, legislation would most likely create more problems for us than do good.

good source

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-05-2...report/4040128

Abbot & the coalition have already opposed any "legalization", Xenaphon is against it although I don't know how close the numbers are in the senate. Will be tough to get through this term though I would of thought and there's no chance of labour getting another term - just got to hold out for about a year. Sounds like it is being pushed a lot by local gambling interests though. The good news I guess is that the anti gambling lobby don't seem to have bought the harm minimization aspects to it.
