Another Poker pro gets scammed. When will they learn? Another Poker pro gets scammed. When will they learn?

Yvgeniy Timoshenko gets scammed by ex-roommate. He could've lost less but it took him so long to make a decision on it he lost much more.

Wasn't that the guy who was like taking forever for every decision at the WSOP?

Well, it did take him 5 years to sue the guy... so yeah story checks out.

I'm amazed at how trusting of others some high stakes players are when it comes to money.

Man gets robbed on the subway. When will people stop taking the subway?

Way too much victim blaming on this site.

I'm not saying it's entirely his fault, it's just something that I personally don't understand.

edit:

I think you can probably find a better analogy.

Anyone else presume that all of those "loans" and "advances" were just cover for props/degenning-gone-bad which YT knows would otherwise be unenforceable, or was that just me?

Also, lol'd so much @

Timoshenko, who now lives in Seattle, had loaned Gu $50,000 to invest in penny stocks — but hasn't been repaid for that advance, his suit claims.

.
He's also out an additional $1,160 for courtside basketball tickets and $1,800 for legal fees related to the Gu's penny stocks, Timoshenko says.

"Timoshenko also asked Gu to hold onto $10,000 cash for safekeeping while he was in London.

Gu agreed — but didn’t give it back to Timoshenko after he asked for it back."

I don't always lend someone money to invest in penny stocks, but when I do its in the tens of thousands.

QFT

These dumb threads. "when will they learn"
They act like there's a 50/50 shot you'll be scammed if you lend money. Reality is there's thousands of times poker players lend money with no issues.
03-30-2017 , 09:11 PM
Is this really newsworthy? I mean who the hell cares about 2 guys in some sort of dispute over rent money.

Yvgeniy: "You owe me 90 grand"

Frank: "No I don't"

Yvgeniy: "Yes you do"

And this **** makes a local paper?

It's not 50/50 but it ends bad way more often than people think.

Well I would guess 0.3% of the time a player lends money they get scammed probably not even that high of a %. But you're telling me its "way more" than that. So throw a number out. Are you saying 10% of the time someone lends money they get scammed?
Thousands of these 'transactions'/agreements are made every year in the poker world. This would not be the case if 5-10% of the time people were being scammed.
03-30-2017 , 10:34 PM
For sure over 10%
03-31-2017 , 12:24 AM
I would say at this point, if you get scammed in poker, shame on you.

When the loan is for betting on penny stocks, it's about 0.350% that you'll ever see that money again.
03-31-2017 , 02:24 PM
It's like that episode of Cheers where Sam didn't place the parlay bet for Woody. Just pay up $1 per day for 10,000 days. What's the big deal?
