FWIW, this has been gone over ad nauseum on these forums since it happened, but imo if not for this happening, Slim would be the Godfather of Poker, not Doyle. Even with Slim getting little to no coverage anymore, I bet if you asked 100 random people on the street to name a famous poker player, his name FAR outstrips the competition. He was on The Tonight Show like 8 times, for chrissakes. What he screwed himself out of in terms of endorsements, fame, and money dwarfs anything most anyone else has received since the boom started.
Either way, I think his plea bargain excuse is a joke, his version is he gave his grand-niece or something a pat on the butt as she was walking away from hugging him or something, and his family members tried to blackmail him. He says he plead to avoid the strong chance of jail time, given that Texas is so gung-ho about crime, (even for a favorite son in a flimsy-at-best case in his opinion?). Either way, if I get unjustly accused of molesting a family member, I would leave no stone unturned in defending myself, and don't fool yourself into thinking Slim didn't know the stakes or what may have been around the corner in the poker landscape.
Also, FWIW, the book is a good read, and I think Cage, while an excellent actor, would be severely miscast.
