Tried to get the links , the links are there but the articles seem to be gone .

Not according to my first copy , all happened in the same time frame . Forrest and or Lederer couldnt play . Those two had the most success against Beal so the corp wanted them to play . I forget how exactly , but Ivey was chosen to play . I want to say they voted on who should play him . Hence Ivey, and corp wins back their money plus a nice sum .

After the bubble burst, he was one of the few left with capital, and suddenly he basically had the market cornered. All his competitors were up to their eyeballs in bad debt. I don't remember the types of loans he did, but I remember he charged like a $50k application fee, so it's safe to say he wasn't writing HUD home mortgages.
Dan Gilbert basically did the same thing with Quicken Loans despite everyone around him telling him to go after all the loans.

Great read. Anyone on the fence should definitely pick this up.

Always enjoyed the part where the book talks about Todd taking the corporation's winnings after the match ended... several million in cash... from Bellagio to Mirage (think it was Mirage, can't remember specifically) to divvy it up with the other pros.

Pretty sure there were a couple rounds of play during the period the book details. Then Beal quit them. A few years later he came back for more which is what the articles detailed. Shame no one can find a good link for them. They were basically a slightly shorter sequel to the book.

Not sure if I am supposed to mention this site, the owner had a go around with Mason. Linda Geenen, dealer at Bellagio, had a poker gossip site that started pre boom. She dealt in the Andy Beal game and used to do little write ups on her blog, among a lot of other Bellagio gossip. It was blog style, got her in a little trouble with some players, and a lot of fun to read. She stopped posting when Doyle dropped the hammer on her. pokerworks or something, last time i checked there were still archives.

Excellent, excellent.
For people who don't know this reference, it's from an internet interview with a prostitute where she flips out when someone asks her if she's retired.

As a couple of others have said, the session where Ivey won big for the Corporation was a couple years after the book. I read a good account of that game somewhere in one of the magazines, I think it was Bluff. Beal was up over $10 mil, they put Ivey in the box for three days straight, and Ivey ran it back.

The acknowledgements section at the end mentioned David Sklansky in an almost passive aggressive fashion. Something about the author speaking with him and really wanting him to explain some things for the book, but Sklansky basically telling him if it ain't about dollars then it don't make sense.

Howard Lederer is living incognito.

He shaved his head and pursued other interests. He began studying music seriously, changed his name to "Jaap van Zweden", and began conducting symphony orchestras.

True story. I also spotted him a few weeks ago in the Borgata mid-limit poker room sifting through the boxes of free pizza. He did not take a slice AFAIK. Ted wins again.

DUDE, THEY WERE PLAYING LHE. an amateur almost broke a tag team of the best players in vegas. there is really very little difference between a knowledgeable amateur and a top pro in lhe. its all about being comfortable with the amt of money you are wagering. any of us could give ivey a run for his money playing 1-2 lhe.

Lol uh no. Though iveys heads,up LHE game vs everyone else from that book is apples to oranges. Ivey is world class and none of the others could beat a mid stakes heads up pro imo.

There is a David Gray interview floating around somewhere in which he states that the rest of the corporation, maybe he names Forrest, think (after the fact) that beating Beal was practically a lock, considering their skill advantage, whereas Gray himself did not see it as a lock - he seemed more in your camp, that even the best in the world against merely a skilled amateur things could have turned really nasty and maybe the pros only win in a similar situation 6 or 7 out of 10 times. I don't remember the exact numbers he dropped, maybe someone can find a the link.

May 2006 edition of Bluff Magazine. I remember reading the article at old summer job and becoming completely obsessed with poker.

Not reading it again but, the last day Ivey and Beal played, Ivey just owned to the tune of $16million IIRC
