they posted cash and bought chips with it just like Andy-so no issues for Andy to cash out his B chips

So its probable that he was 'crushing' them but just ran bad or came up against Ivey who was just too smart / good.
I think Beale's strategy was to push the action at the highest stakes and thus take the pros out of their comfort zones. You can see from the book excerpt posted above how his strategy really did make it very hard on guys like Ted Forrest to play him. However, once the pros combined bankrolls and sent in their best players I think that Beale realized that his strategy had been countered.

Great book. Read it years ago just bought it again.

Oh what a journey poker has been on since this story. I no longer play poker. I play daily fantasy sports, but the legends and folklore of poker will stick with me for ever.

I can't imagine BG to be really that busto. He must have an expensive house to sell and other rich man stuff for at least a few hundered K+ or a million? That's a pretty nice bankroll still

Gus played him one session I believe? And then had Harman take over for him.

The biggest coverage in the book went to Lederer, Harman, Todd, and Forrest in terms of who he played often.
I played at the bellagio for a few days during this and ivey played at least 2 long days vs him.

The book is quite explicit on this - after the first time, the rule was unless your money was down, you weren't in the group. They made one exception for Harman as she was near death from kidney problems or something and couldn't come.

It's a fantastic book, and recommended highly.

There should be a rule.
If you haven't read the book, you are forbidden from posting ITT.

according to Micheal Craig-everyone posted in cash every time they played-I specifically asked him this among other things in the meeting I mentioned in the other post-it was a big deal and one of the biggest hassles getting the games together

Whoa... calm down, sir. He never said the guy was retired, he simply asked what happened to him because we don't hear much about him. In fact, asking "Retired?" should imply that he does NOT know if Giang has retired from the game. Otherwise, he would have said it, not asked it.

To Dream's question, here's my guess: Giang was (and still is) largely a cash-game player who ended up on the "TV player radar" during the boom because it became so lucrative to do so. With that gravy train gone, it doesn't surprise me that many players we got to know in the 2004-07 range seem to have vanished.

For what it's worth, he finished 10th in the PCA's $10K six-max event back in 2013. So he has not necessarily disappeared from the tournament scene. But he probably has reduced his schedule significantly, not unlike Barry Greenstein (see link to blog above).

Great book , Loaned my first copy to a friend and it was never returned . Purchased the book again on impulse because I lost contact with the the friend I lent it to . Was disappointed in the second read , Phil Ivey was reduced to a bit character .

In the first copy there was a entire chapter dedicated to his match with Beal. Ivey even agreed to a rebate of 1/3 because they raised the stakes . Beal wanted to use the same chip denominations because his movements were well rehearsed so the pros couldnt pick up any tells .

All of the Ivey match was removed , I wonder if any one else here read a old copy with those Ivey chapters .

I wonder why it was all removed . If my memory serves me correctly the Corporation only really won 4 Million from Beal . Ivey basically saved the Corporation from taking a huge loss

Great book. I also read in one sitting. Iirc there was also a long series of articles also by Michael Craig in Bluff or Cardplayer about the second round of matches. I think the book was about the first round of matches. If my memory serves, the second round of matches was when Ivey demolished Beal. I'm guessing someone can dig up links to the articles.

Yeah I purchased the book in 2007 (it was released in 2005) and I don't recall much about Ivey being in there.

The second round that you are referring to, i.e. Phil Ivey saving the corporation's bacon, didn't happen till 2006, well after the book was published. I always hoped there would be a sequel detailing all of that. All these years later, and it's still my favourite poker book.....
