So much for the "what happens in Vegas..." slogan.

And here I just got over that 2+2 post about bed bugs from years ago.

Any update on this? Is the Rio moving people to different properties?

I called them June 10. Front desk rep told me all was back to normal and they were letting people check in to Ipanema. Looks from this thread that it's not happening. Not taking chances. Moved to another hotel.

The Southern Nevada Health District's FAQ about this situation is fairly informative, or at least more so than the news articles:

Gotta believe that they're doing everything they can to purge the system of all Legionella... but it is a bit concerning that they say "Once a system contains Legionella bacteria, it is very difficult to remove it."

I never stay at the Rio... it's, to be kind, has deteriorated a lot over the years. But my question revolves around food, which during WSOP events you're very limited to grabbing something at the hotel. I will be leaving tmw morning for events at the WSOP. What is everyone doing in regards to food? Just bringing your own stuff?

Doesn't seem like an official resolution is coming soon. Definitely changing hotels for my trip in a couple of weeks.

I mean I get that they've only had 2 cases in the last 3 months, but it's so odd to me that the CDC isn't taking a harsher stance on this. Seems so odd that more isn't being done.

Yea it's really weird that it's not really being discussed either. It appears that washing your hands near infected water is a good way to get this disease; I guess that's why poker players aren't worried lol.

Kinda bummed since I'm going to Vegas more for the WSOP tournaments than cash games and don't want to spend any time at Rio now...

Legionella is wayyyy more common than you guys know. In fact often times legionella positives come straight from incoming city water. No property is immune to it unless they are using secondary disinfection with constant monitoring of free chlorine levels. As others have said it generally is more prevalent in warm/hot water and doesn't appear in water above 135ish degrees as that's the kill zone. If it wasn't for scalding risks these hotels could just superheat their hot water to 150 degrees and never have any issues....

Also, huge lol at being worried about legionella at a hotel when they are actively trying to control it through addition of chlorine and monitoring.....and then you take 98% of your showers in your home where nothing is being done to protect you. Best advice I can give is to superheat your water through your hot water heater. As others have said vast majority that get it are immune compromised so that's the reason why it's a far larger issue in the healthcare field because almost everyone at a hospital is immune compromised

According to reports coming out about the Flint Legionnaire's outbreak in 2015 (12 people died, ~90 sick), the CDC must be "invited" by the state to come in and investigate. Michigan claimed to have a handle on that one and told the CDC to stay home, but now it's coming out that this outbreak was likely due to the improper treatment of the Flint River water supply. As a result a number of state officials involved in those decisions are being charged with involuntary manslaughter.

At least it's promising that SNHD is openly discussing the Rio case and they are in there addressing it, although it's a bit annoying neither they or the Rio will tell you which tower was affected.

I'm still trying to decide whether to stay at the Rio or much farther away, starting Monday. But it's not clear to me from this thread (or from asking the Rio by phone) whether new guests are even being allowed to check in at the moment. Can anyone provide an update on that, as of Thursday/Friday? Thanks.
