Everett voters yesterday overwhelmingly backed Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn’s proposal to bring a $1.2 billion casino to their city in the first such referendum since the state passed its gaming law.

in my opinion Wynn would build the best casino for massachusetts hes got a good track record agree/disagree?

This is not a Native American casino? If so, smart move MA. And Wynn will build a first class facility.

Wynn is fighting against two other casinos for the license. But Wynn has gone through the most steps. Caesars is trying to get Suffolk downs track but they lost a big investor. Then the native americans who own Foxwoods in CT are trying to get Milford MA but they have financial problems.

yea I live down the street from where they were trying to build it in milford. was actually the ONLY resident that didn't have a "Casi-NO!" sign. needless to say I was not invited to the yearly block party

this is amazing for MA and so so bad for Mohegan and foxwoods. I don't think people have any idea how much MA money comes into those places. Not only that, but people in RI that are closer to MA casino now. GG CT

I'd be more concerned about the casino being built on a old Monsanto chemical plant site than it being built in Everett. I still think Suffolk Downs and Caesars wins this license.

OP,

This is a somewhat confusing title. Massachusetts is poised to approve up to 3 resort style casino licenses (and slot parlors) in 3 geographic areas of the state. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is targeting February 26, 2014 as their date for issuing casino licenses. WYNN DID NOT WIN A LICENSE. No licenses have been awarded. The Town of Everett (Northern/Boston region) simply approved a host community agreement with Wynn. There will be other bidders for this license.

One Indian tribe appears to be the front runner for the license in Southeastern Massachusetts, as they have preference and already have a host agrrement with the town of Taunton and are in discussions with a compact with the Governor. Commercial bids for this license are on hold.

There will also be a license for Western Massachusetts. Proposals have been put forth by MGM, Hard Rock, and Mohegan for this license in Springfield, Palmer, and Holyoke.

Suggested Re-Title: Everett MA voters approve host community agreement with Wynn for casino bid

kind of sucks they are going to put it in Everett. Not a very nice area. Gonna really suck for Foxwoods/Mohegan. People in Northern RI would probably rather go to Boston to gamble, than middle of nowhere Conn imo.

That is if Wynn actually wins the bid or whatever. Weren;t they trying to build one near Gillette?

Foxwoods and Mohegan will be more impacted by a Western Massachusetts casino as they are both within 75 miles of Springfield MA. Thats why Foxwoods and Mohegan will be bidding or investors in this license. The Southeastern MA license will handle southern MA, the Cape and Rhode Island and will put Twin Rivers out of business. The Boston license will handle northern MA plus New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. Actually 3 resort casinos plus the slot parlors is a lot for MA.............

Wynn originally partnered with the NE Patriots owner to build one in Foxboro. Town officials were not receptive to the idea and it was abandoned.

Everett is the best option for the greater Boston license. It's a working class city that shouldn't be damaged much with a casino. The Suffolk downs option is not as appealing as traffic in East Boston where the airport is, will become less manageable. Thus, many east Boston residents are opposed while Everett has welcomed Steve Wynn with open arms. The chemical site is a blight on the city and to be replaced by a clean, secure resort/casino should bring some needed financial and aesthetic relief to the city.

Wynn has really tried to roll out the red carpet to residents and Gaming in order to get a license, as the EMass license is the most valuable bc it won't have to split as much action w the CT behemoths like the Western Mass license will. Suffolk is a second option but doesn't seem as logistically feasible.

I'm not sure how much Wynn will promote poker in this operation, but if he has a pulse on the wants of his prospective customers (and I figure one of his minions has been tasked w this), he will actively court the enthusiastic and numerous poker players in the region.
