Hey, Norway used to be ruled by Sweden for centuries, so any Nordic term can be used for something Swedish, I say.

I could have said "I want to lay down my Viking sword between her tomtes" but I didn't figure anyone non-Swedish would ever have heard of a tomte as opposed to a fjord.

Not initially. The tomte is a mythical creature from Scandinavian folklore, sort of like a dwarf.

In modern times it has become associated with Christmas though and many Swedish families might have a little tomte doll hanging around the tree at Christmas time.
