Whether or not poker ever returns to where it was in the 2000s, I think enough time has passed to allow us to logically look back to try and pinpoint what the highest of high points was. I'm not talking about for you as a player personally. I mean for the game itself, whether in terms of mainstream publicity, a milestone of some sorts, or the poker economy.

Curious to hear everyone's thoughts, and sincere apologies if there was another thread like this in recent enough memory. I didn't recall one.

2006 when the Main Event had by far the most entrants. This was also the high point of the housing boom, as it began to tank late 2007.

what really started it though was the UIEGA passed in late 2006, which took party poker from the US market. after that, a few other smaller rooms left, and then neteller was shut down in 2007, followed by the housing market collapse. all of that really sucked for poker.

I really don't remember Party leaving pre Neteller getting shutdown but I played on a lot of sites back then and it kind of all blurs together.

The 50/100 LHE and 10/20 NL on Party in early 2006 were easier than Stars' 3/6 LHE and .50/1 games in 2016.

in 2006 i was only playing up to 5/10 nl on party but holy **** were those games super soft. they weren't just easier than 100 nl today they were significantly easier. And party didn't have close to the softest games.

Well I was playing on Party back in 2006, and they closed down the site to Americans as soon as the UIGEA was passed. Poker in general was starting to get a little harder and not as much fun for recreational players because of the extensive multi-tabling by online pros, but Party's leaving the US market in October of 2006 was the beginning of the end.

I liked the year (2005?) when the trendy poker play was the "move of honor", just open shoving 100 BBs with AA and still consistently getting fish to call you.

This makes me really ****ing sad I was playing most rooms back around the time of the boom, but tbh even sites such as the old Betfair when they left Crypto (although that was good too) were so soft even up until 2010-12

I'm optimistic not so much of another boom but hopeful governments realize the benefit of world wide pools - although this might be a pipe dream. They are so dumb it's unreal, the tax $/€/£ is still in the billions. Pisses me off daily that they can't see this. A boom could follow when the USA pull their finger out of the arse stop being corrupted by people like Adelson & try to legalize it much in the same way DFS have tried.

I would say 06 as well..good mix of regs and reg player pool was a good time. I enjoyed it most back in 04 when the $50,100r was super soft and only 100 players max...good times.

2006 WSOP Main Event. All the online sites had suites for players with free drinks and swag. If I recall correctly, a sizable number of entrants won their entry on PokerStars.

NHL went on strike 2004-2005 season. I think that helped the boom. During this time it seemed like poker was on tv 24 / 7.

peak was def Jamie Gold running over the Main event.
calling the floor on Eric Molina.. flashing cards... out-talking Pralhlad Friedman.

Easy to tear him apart but he won the biggest Main event in history with a hell of a lot of style,
