Ask any high stakes pro to put in a million hands at play money to prove they can beat it. They wont even try because they're obviously scared.

I was going to challenge OP to a play-money heads-up match, but I lost my nerve.

That last point is literally true, but not for the reason you imply.

A Play money player could master the math and reach something that resembles GTO but I reckon they would have a real hard time mastering the mental game.
If they know the math and play a game approaching GTO, then WTF are they doing playing play money? Other than practicing?

Given the fact you pay like 50bb/100 rake (!) at playmoney (which means you "pay" like $55/100 at the most running game (200M NL) given best conditions when u buy chips (lol) legally, whis doesn't surprise me.
This just means infinite money for pokerstars without too much to do for it

I personally play playmoney for the lolz and made the 1k to 1 billion grind two times already (just made it up to 250M within two weeks) but i've never beaten real cash higher than nl25 longterm.
Id say i learned some things about poker while playing playmoney (especially HU) though.

For me chips gain value (in terms of invested time) the higher i play.

Let the trolling begin :P

Play money tournament players who stick around beyond an hour, and, thus, are apparently taking the event seriously, seem just as solid as those in small stakes tournaments.

If by 'solid' you mean just as bad as most micro tornie players then yes.

People talk about the high rake a play money. Richas, who knew more about this than me, said that where the play money game is attached to a real money game the marketing tool has to reflect the real game including.

For example a friend of mine has "won" 54 million pounds at play money roulette on his phone and semi-seriously says he should try real money roulette given he's so lucky. That isn't an acceptable marketing technique for a real-money gaming site regulated in the UK (I don't know who the provider of the play money roulette is, presumably it's stand-alone).

so when is the 2+2 sponsored play money home game league starting so we can once and for all squash this beef?

Mr. Sklansky?

Mr. Malmuth?

i believe a $1k, 1year long points race is in order (generously donated by Alan Kessler) .. $500 to charity the other $500 divided between top 3 point leaders at end of year, pokerstars style (50% / 30% / 20%)

that is all

This quite depends. They would be crushed by 2nl regs at 2nl, but would own them at 100NL or play money. Just like micro grinders will be lost at 1kNL, while good play money sharks will bet bet bet and 1k regs will fold, while at 2kNL this won`t work. But 2NL crushers will win solidly at 2kNL for the first few 1000 hands until the regs adapt to their style (variance caveat obviously).
