UltimateBeat - UB documentary Released 10/22!
 

Here is a teaser of UltimateBeat - too much to lose, a documentary in production about the insider fraud at UltimateBet. The project got off the ground in February and we have acquired gear and shot some good footage (click the graphics). I'm really excited and grateful for the folks who have agreed to participate so far and we still have some strong shoots left to do.

We also need a relatively small amount of funds to complete the project and have set up a Kickstarter page that will run for the next 30 days. Crowdfunding the balance of the project is cool because the investigations were primarily a crowdsourcing effort.

Sometimes you just have to let it go. EG has done a ton of excellent work for 2p2'rs and many members want to see this done.

I love what you are doing and I have always followed your posts and research.

I think the video needs to be more clear right form the start as to what went on. My guess is that this piece is not clear enough for those not familiar with the scandal. I think you could consider starting the video out with some more obvious statements.

You need to start with something that catches the viewer's attention immediately. You don't want people closing it after the first 20 seconds. See a 48 hours opening as an example. There is so much intrigue with all of this and I think you should use that.

The clip is ok for those in the know, but I assume that you would like a broader audience to watch the video.

So looking forward to this documentary.

I must say it's kinduv funny seeing Brad Booth to start the trailer as he's been on both sides of the fence: scammed and now scammer. I often wonder if getting cheated at UB was the catalyst for the road he's gone down. Really seems to have messed with him. I hope he can repay what he owes and get back on his feet. Everybody loves a good redemption story.

I wrestle with this a lot. I believe this could appeal to a wider audience but then we probably should have tried to find traditional funding at a higher level and focused on traditional distribution, etc. Instead, we decided to take a guerillla approach and focus on making a piece for the poker world so the BS narrative is not allowed to stand.

People forget that Phil was acting as an informal liason to the community when the investigation first began, and during that phase the company kept altering their position based on forum discovery. He actually relayed early on that they thought the problem was very minor and only a few screennames. That should have been a huge wakeup call to Hellmuth that the company wasn't gonna play it straight. It wasn't like there weren't plenty of folks talking about not being able to get HHs or public audits or other things he could have pushed for with his very high profile. Instead, he passed it off to Leggett and went to play golf, or hang with Gretzky or whatever it is he does.

Yeah, it is a touchy situation. I have had to reevaluate how much of his stuff to include due to this. His personal issues don't negate what happened to him at UB and were likely magnified because of it. I am totally grateful he hooked me up with folks to fund the first phase of the project though I don't believe any of them played much online or lost much to UB.

I wanted him to hold a Meerschaum but he declined. Also, Aussie not Brit.

Kind of sad they were unable to drill down or provide enough juice to cause a deeper investigation. They obv hit the major points, but its the nuance and details that make this case truly interesting. Also, not much creedence was given to the cover-up theories in 2008/2009.

Best to let the chefs do their thing. I'm also eagerly looking forward to their work. Almost equal to waiting for each episode of Breaking Bad...

I mean, FTP is such a big deal and obv a great resolution appears ahead. That said, this is primarily to alert folks and find some assistance to get the rest of our shots. The film won't be cut together for several months. Is five years too long to tell an interesting crime story? I don't know. I just couldn't walk away without telling it.
