An investment fraudster dumped millions in the games. Got sent to prison. The investors wanted some of their money back and sued a bunch of the poker playing stars. Most of them settled for some amount of money.

FWIW the Taiwanchik named in the indictment is a pretty serious fellow, one of the top Russian mafia bosses. He's the one accused of fixing the Olympics for crying out loud. If the poker organizers/players were smart they'd have tried to avoid including fish/money/bets from people who are under incredible heat from the Federal government.

Sucks for the players, though, just ridiculous that it's a crime.

The guys name was brad ruderman he is doing like ten Years in Texas. I guess he didn't have a heart condition. Molly was just a personal asst type to a player in the big la games and ended up running them. Some were huge games 100k plus buy in with a crazy rake.

Games were settled by check swapping.
Lets say i lost 20k and another player won 23k I would write my 20k check to the other player and the house would pay him the 3k out of petty cash . It all went to hell when the people suing the brad ruderman estate on behalf of bilked clients saw all these checks to people. They investigated and it all blew up

iirc they tried to prove Molly took a rake and thus it was illegal games.
But i don't think it ever got that far. People just paid up to keep it all quiet.

Let's just say when I saw him playing the One Drop I became very suspicious of another income.

FYI when a sealed indictment becomes unsealed each person on that list is arrested at around 6 AM by FBI agents. You're handcuffed and taken away without any discussion. You're not on that list if you were playing poker.

I was even more suspicious when I heard he was staked by Vladimir Putin .

Read through some of the indictment pretty quickly.

Looks like Justin Smith, Abe, Feldman and Edler were allegedly involved in bookmaking. I didn't see their names in the counts related to running a poker game (like Bloom).

Why is Edler not in the list of names, but he shows up in the indictment?
