[QUOTE=Bighurt52235;47857468]To Tim and others,

How would you have Adelson run the two Vegas properties that would not be "hypocritical"? ID literally every single person, each time they gamble or get a drink? Well one of your people provided documentation saying she was legal. Do you ask every woman if she is a prostitute? When she says no, do you continue to investigate?

In case I'm not clear, I have no issue with how his casinos are run other than the fact that he claims a moral high ground as his argument against you and me pursuing our professions from home, and buying elections in an effort to do so.

Lol. Nobody here likes Adelson.

Assume that he really didn't want prostitutes or underage people on his property, how is he going to stop it? I'm sure he doesn't want murder on his property, if someone stabs someone else in the throat at the dice table, is that his fault?
That's obviously an extreme example, but what could reasonably be done to prevent these things?

I think the video really misses the mark.
Maybe he can use some of the money he's spending to fight online poker to deal with what he's railing against at his own properties.

And quite literally HOW would he do that? The examples I gave in the post you quoted?

If you have no issues with the way the casinos are run, what are you showing with your video? Yeah, the guy is a hypocrite...

Add additional staff at all entrances to gaming areas and require everyone to show ID to enter. Have them trained to identify fake IDs. Possibly have a way to look up DMV/Passport data to verify at least when exchanging money for chips and vice versa. Why not have a gambling license like most states have hunting and fishing licenses that require multiple forms of identification to obtain and can be verified similar to what regular sites do these days.

Not cheap to implement but he obviously has money to throw around so why not throw it to help any of his potential customers that might have a problem with gambling or underage kids trying to gamble or drink at his properties.

As for prostitution that's pretty simple. Create a book of known and suspected prostitutes similar to the Griffin book and use their facial recognition software to identify them at the bars and lobbies and ban then from the property. Cooperate with local law enforcement to conduct stings to arrest prostitutes on their properties as well as their clientele.

It's doable and not that costly compared to trying to shut down online gambling. Many people wouldn't like it though for various reasons but if he did those things I wouldn't consider his arguments against online gaming to be as hypocritical.

Apply for a gambling license just to hit a casino every now and then?

Lol.

I mean where do I even begin with this?

First of all you can't stop minors from being in gambling areas because the hotel is located somewhere on the casino floor. Same with some restaurants. Parents couldn't take their kids

Secondly, a gambling license? So people are going to fale ID's but not this new for of ID that won't even have a picture on it?

And my favorite is the big book of hookers. There are thousands of hookers is LV. New ones come in every day. I'm sure bar attendance and sales will sky rocket once the bartender has to tell every woman who enters that it will be 20 minutes before he can serve her a drink because he has to look her up in the hooker book. On the plus side of you leave a copy of the hooker book in every hotel room you may get back a few of the customers you seem intent on driving away.

If half of what of the things you suggested were implemented the Casino would instantly go out of business. Why would anyone go through any of that hassle where there are 100 other casinos within a 20 minute drive?

But again very little of this points to Sheldon's hypocrisy because he won't be the one doing this. You think the bartenders don't already know who the hookers are? they just don't care

I don't think the things I suggested are any more ridiculous than what he's trying to do for online gambling.

Your comment points to his hypocrisy. If he was so concerned about prostitution why not hire bartenders that do share his beliefs? Or maybe he likes having them available as an added benefit to some of his customers?

I think you vastly overestimate the understanding the average person has on how gambling is actually run. The video is pointless for the audience of 2p2 because everyone here already knows everything in it. It will rack up views, just like you'd rack up views if you put a "why abortion is murder" video up on a christian forum.

The video is an excellent counterpoint for the know-nothing general public who believes that casinos do a good job stopping underage gambling, but that online you click mouse lose house. Unfortunately, it will never have much widespread appeal beyond the Adelson-haters because of exactly what this thread has derailed into - "what is happening in Vegas", instead of the intended message of "online gambling is way better at handling the issues than live". I get that the creator was trying to distinguish this clearly, but it might just be impossible.

I'd also argue that in reality, another poster had it correct. You could just as easily make a video of an underage person getting carded and rejected in Vegas, and a 13 year old putting in dad's SSN/DL and playing online for years after getting past that initial hurdle, something not necessarily possible live (if you look underage, there's a decent chance you're going to be carded every single time you sit down at a table, not just the first time). Claiming that isn't true is Michael Moore-esque levels of truth in documentaries.

So what? Just add a box on the application that asks if you'll serve drinks to hookers?

Does it? Or does it show them that even the form of gambling that they thought was protected the most can't stop minors so why even make the form they distrust legal?

Lol, some make it sound like Sheldon micro manages the hiring phase of all peasants that work in his casinos, and the video Tim keeps posting and feels "compelled" to out Sheldon as a fraud has 1900 views.

Also, you guys are taking history from 1997-2014 and asserting that online is more difficult for minors to play. Sure, now with having to give a SSN makes it more difficult, but the history of online poker was give an email address, type in a false birth date, deposit money and start playing. That's going to be a more difficult stigma to overcome.

There is already a book of hookers in Vegas, it's called the phone book. If you caught ADELSON with a hooker, THAT would expose him as a hypocrite. Catching YOURSELF with one doesn't count!!

"Frank Luther Mott defined yellow journalism in terms of five characteristics:

scare headlines in huge print, often of minor news
lavish use of pictures, or imaginary drawings
use of faked interviews, misleading headlines, pseudoscience, and a parade of false learning from so-called experts
emphasis on full-color Sunday supplements, usually with comic strips
dramatic sympathy with the "underdog" against the system."

Tim, nice work. Do you think that with some hard evidence like this that Adelson's arguments are false and hypocritical that it may open the eyes of people outside of the (relatively tiny but well informed) two plus two community? Rumor has it that elected officials often respond to the opinions of their constituents, even when truck loads of money are being dumped into their coffers. If the truck driver is shown to be a sleazy, corrupt profiteer, maybe they will not sell their votes to him for fear of a backlash by well informed constituents who now see what's really going on rather than saying "I don't play online poker, so meh."

It's a very fair point, not unlike whether the "legalize marijuana because its no worse than tobacco or alcohol" argument is an effective mechanism.

It's a little ironic, because in this case, the pro-online poker lobby is doing exactly what the anti-online poker lobby did.

1) Feel strongly that a certain behaviour should change
2) Fail to convince people that the behaviour should change
3) Try to stop the source of the money opposing your viewpoint
4) Success?

Why do we care which games they thought were most protected? At this point there's plenty of evidence of underage gambling occurring in B&M rooms, and as far as I know, zero reported cases in regulated online gaming including Europe.

I don't understand why people don't like Adelson. He runs a casino business. He's made a fortune. If he wanted to dominate the online space it'd be so easy for him to. He's choosing not to and lobbying against it because he feels gambling shouldn't be done in people's bedrooms.

What am I missing? If anything, if a casino owner was passionately promoting online gaming or a cigarette company was lobbying to legalize cigarette smoking in public area everyone in this thread would be saying "Wow, these guys are unethical sell outs". This is the exact opposite.

I don't know what the mark is that you think the video is missing but your questions make it clear that you don't get the point. The point isn't whether these things can be prevented or are being prevented. The point is he is claiming that they can be prevented in a brick and mortar casino and cannot be prevented online. When in fact the opposite proved true. That's it. That's the point. The point is not whether it's good, bad, feasible, or obvious. The point is that his claims are false and if he's using those claims as the basis for his campaign against online gambling then his campaign is baseless.

Seems like a good point to make to me.

I like the video. It's a bit intense and over the top, but it makes a good point.
