I am really surprised by how many people really think the WSOP gives a 8hit. If they cared even the least little bit (3%) it all would have been handled/planed out weeks ago.

I think part of the reason people think they don't care is because the "high rollers" and more popular players, who have more say when it comes to the WSOP don't stay at the Rio. They rent houses or stay at better places like Palms Place, etc.

It's sad, but I don't think Effel or Stewart care much about a guy who comes to play 2-5 events and leaves.

I still don't think this problem is solely on the WSOP, the players who leaves thousands of dollars out in their rooms have to be at fault.

Maybe bc you don't have live in Nevada to play online poker, rather only need to be in Nevada to play legal online poker.

Really good idea.

Doesn't the RIO have a safe in each room?

Where in the hell would they be going that they leave $35k in their room? A pool party or something? Makes no sense to me.

You shouldn't have to pay extra money on top of what you're paying for your room to protect your valuables

I disagree. If I'm staying at the Rio, I don't want the price of the room structured such that it includes the price of the safe. The people that use the safe should be the ones paying for it. We can just call it a stupidity tax.

So you're saying that people who use the safes are stupid? I don't get that logic. After all these incidents it seems like the stupid person is the one not using the safe. A hotel needs to help it's guests protect their valuables and charging money for that protection seems wrong to me

Are these room safes TL-15 or TL-30? If not then I'd say they are pretty stupid to use them for any sizeable amount of cash/valuables...especially if any moron with a code can crack them.

May need to check the people that choose to leave valuables in their room outside of the safe for a pulse because they sound brain dead.

How is that ridiculous?? If you can afford to have $10k laying in your room unattended you can certainly afford a $200 safe-box in the Rio.

The box isn't in the Rio Hotel, the boxes are at the cage in the poker room, i believe.

There has to be a bypass code for electronic safes. People probably forget it all the time.

A cool thing indeed would be a text every time someone opens the door.

Let's say you're 20 minutes away from your room. You decided to go to one of the malls off the strip. Maybe even a day trip. You suddenly get a text that your room safe has been opened. How does that help you?

Are you going to go back as fast as possible and hope they are still standing around 20 minutes later? You can give the time of entry to security. But no CCTV in the corridor! So maybe you could reduce it down to a possible 100 or so people by seeing who entered the elevators in a certain time period which may be incorrect anyway. Then of course the possibility there's a glitch as technology does mess up every now and then. You receive a text that the door has been opened and panic, only to find everything is secure.

You could have a camera inside the safe so it takes a picture when the door is opened, just in case. But there's obvious flaws that thieves will cover their face for opening a safe.

The discussion was about in room
Safes

At least that's what I was talking about. I'm fine with the poker room having you pay a deposit or fee to keep your money there all summer but IMO the in room safes shouldn't cost extra which they did last time I stayed at rio

Of course they shouldn't. What next? Charge to turn on the TV, charge to use the bathroom? It's pretty standard for the safes in a room to be 'complimentary'.

You would think that the room safe would be included in the BS $18 resort fee.
