With the amount of money, laptops, ipads etc being left in these hotel rooms now I think it would be a good idea for pros to just shell out about $100 and get a wireless camera that you can stick in hotel rooms that send direct feed/recordings to phones/laptops.

Valid point. But how about employee access elevator or stairs if it is inside job.

Are you joking or did I miss your answers to the open questions in the EPT Barcelona thread?

Get one of these:
http://www.belkin.com/us/p/P-F7D7601/

you can bring your own personal hotspot router...and anytime motion is detected a picture is taken and immediately emailed out. so even if they stole device they've already been caught

Is that a real answer or joke...

If joke-your not in a position to be joking about this kind of stuff. Give solid advice not some dumb joke. You hate Vegas or something...

If real answer-you don't deserve your position with Stars

Sadly, I've been there and done that. RIO security and management are deplorable.

These three rules should guide your travel, to Las Vegas, Barcelona, or practically anywhere:

Rule 1 : You should ALWAYS use the inroom safe for laptops, ipads, cash, credit cards, phones, and other valuables. Lock the safe EVERY time you leave the room. In fact, leave your crap IN the safe unless you are using it right now.

Rule 2 : If there is NO inroom safe, then use a safe at the front desk and stay somewhere else tomorrow, if that is possible.

Rule 3. NEVER put cash or a laptop or pad into any checked luggage.

You can fit $35k in your wallet?

You can even get apps to download that turn a tablet/phone into a motion sensor camera that will snap a pic and email/text it to you should anyone enter. Admittedly you wouldn't want to leave a phone at risk but that stuff is an alternative.

Feel bad for the victims who got valuables stolen, but c'mon people. You are obv asking for this to happen is you stay at the Rio. If you have $10k+ in cash you can afford $200 for a box to keep all your cash in. Tough situation but it could've been avoided.

I'm a weekend warrior, 9-5 office worker who frequents Vegas a couple times a year. I will drop about 1k while gambling (no brag). I would never leave a couple hundo in a room unattended let alone 35k. What do they say, "a poker player and their money will soon be parted?"

Where ever I am in the world, I always use the room safe for all documents, money, coke, etc etc

Its sad and frustrating for the people who have had money stolen, but jesus JUST USE THE SAFE.

The Rio is a dump. The Caesars/ Harrahs group is running it into the ground. It used to be really nice.

If I was LVPD, it seems like it would've been really easy to do a sting; a Nanny cam, and 3 obvious looking poker hi rollers checking into a room.

If Caesars/Harrahs gave a ****, they could've EASILY done that.

They could still set it up for the main event, but the bad guys have probably moved on.
But if it's Rio employees, they'll do it again and it would be easy to catch them.

I have heard stories (no idea if true) that these in room safes have 'reset' codes that are easy to find for an experienced thief, and are actually the worst place to store valuables. Anyone have more info on that?

seriously ... it's 'easy' to get keycards and it's pretty easy to spot the rich poker-pros ... sure, it can be an insider job or a friend of a friend. But as long, as nvg tards just try to find a scape goat instead of getting rid of the problem, this will happen again and again
Afaik, most of the hate directed towards PS in that thread was due to their terrible job following up on the situation and their terrible job addressing concerns that people had about it. I think it was pretty well deserved regardless of whether or not casino hotels have poor security.

PS was dishonest with jeans and Lee Jones decided to just vanish without answering a lot of very valid questions that were raised. It's okay to think that hotel security sucks and is a problem that needs to be addressed and also have criticism for PS and Lee Jones when they do a terrible job.

I was staying at the Mirage and my room safe was f$%#ed-up. They sent up a guy from "Engineering", he entered a reset code, opened it, had me enter a new combo, and it was fixed. He was not the sharpest tool in the shed and he probably made $15 an hour.

So if it's an inside job, it would be easy to hack into the room safes.

Those safes do have an override code for opening them should someone leave it locked after leaving / forget their code. I wouldn't personally leave anything valuable in a room safe, it would be a last resort. It's the most obvious place to keep valuables and the first place a thief would expect to find them. Hiding money under the bed is awful, but still a better alternative.

I have this. It would work. I get a constant barrage of emails anytime my 18 month old rolls over in his sleep, or when someone goes in the bedroom and tries to take the rack of greens he keeps under his crib.

also: kids look creepy as **** on night vision.
