Non-US players play there (if they can - not open to Europeans) because it's a million miles softer than any other site.

Winning Poker Network was also named in a Maryland DOJ indictment. Nothing happened there either. It is not possible to shut down these sites. There is no firewall to make that possible and the banking, domains, servers and employees are all out of reach of the DOJ.

Edit: I don't think the author of that article in OP is aware that Bodog/Bovada are already under indictment and simply ignored it.
Why was domain not seized?

It was seized. Bodog uses a .eu now. Bovada uses a Latvian domain. U.S. players were moved to Bovada shortly before the seizure. The .com forwarded to it.

So the DOJ just lost interest to keep seizing new domains?

Ever notice how the U.S.-facing offshore sites no longer use a .com domain? Domains outside the U.S. are generally considered to be outside the jurisdiction of the U.S. Govt. Sites started moving to .eu, .ag etc after Black Friday so they wouldn't get domains seized.

True. Wonder where Full Tilt would be today if they would have done the same.

I don't like this thread or the pokernews article. Not because either is inaccurate, but I hate to see it even talked about. I'm sure the DOJ is aware of them, but I prefer it to stay under the radar at a time when political candidates are begging for support from our morality opponents.

I don't see the doj ever going after them even at bovada size right now its not even half of what it used to be. And unless bovada happens to walk on US territory anytime soon they probably won't get to prosecute and I'm sure bovada has their money spread out through many processors.

sigh. this is a depressing thread, especially for those of us who have a ton of $ on Carbon and are now busting our humps trying to grind out a living on Bovada.

Bovada is as large as it has ever been on the poker side. Poker became so big that they don't even want affiliates promoting it anymore. I see no reason to believe that is casino and sports are any different in terms of size compared to historical numbers. Sports betting is as popular as ever.

I'm curious as to why Calvin Ayre isn't on the ICE 10 Most Wanted anymore. Either ICE gave up prioritizing him or something is going on behind the scenes. OTOH, I don't think whatever happens to him will have any material effect on Bodog and its skins.

With that said, there is always a risk playing at offshore sites. Don't keep any money there than you are willing to risk losing, no matter how historically strong the site is. Circumstances beyond their control could change quickly.

I'm inspired, they're untouchable by DOJ, they pay in 6 days, they'll continue to grow. Bovada till regulation.

Could have already been posted, and this isn't a confirmed source, but I've heard Bovada is on some Indian Reservation up in Canada somewhere, so it's a double whammy getting to it. F it. Play em all at your own risk. Don't worry about the DOJ...worry about not being able for them to keep paying you out in a timely manner and becoming another Merge network. Until then, ahoy, mates.

It is no secret that Bodog/Bovada are located on the Mohawk Reservation just outside Montreal. Bovada's parent co is something like Morris Mohawk Gaming Group.
