I think his advisors would advice him against going to Las Vegas even if there was zero gambling involved.

I don't think poker playing is a negative thing for a president, but it has to be of the friendly home game variety to illustrate how he just is a normal guy.

^ Obama was pandering to Texans as Texas burgers come with mustard and no ketchup. Obama did better in Texas than expected, thanks mainly to his plea for a college football playoff system. He clearly feels that he can win Texas in 2012.

I think he could play, in theory, so long as 100% of the winnings went directly to the Department of the Treasury, or perhaps some legitimate charity. That said, I'm afraid I like Ferguson and Gordon's side on those prop bets on whether or not Obama shows.

i think it's pretty much impossible that he plays the ME this year. obviously would create tons of problems...

There might be a chance that he would tape a message wishing good luck on all players and then saying "shuffle up and deal".

Very tough to think any sitting national politician would be caught paying a 10K tournament when that is 3-4 months of the typical families gross income, and a full year of gross for the lowest earners. It would make them seem too out of touch with the electorate.

Would Obama accept if a bunch of poker players made a large donation to the US Treasury to do so? I think it would be so +EV for poker that a very large sum would be justified. I think we might have more luck in the 2012 WSOP if he played as part of a fundraiser/campaign stop.

If Obama played the ME it would be the most insane thing ever for poker. It has to be worth 50 million at least. Imagine the president with a www.whitehouse.com logo on his jersey. Would be the most incredible event and would make the main event a total zoo even more so than now.

I personally think it would be the most genius move he could make and would make him a legend in the poker community which obv would have a lot of positive results for him which outweigh the negatives. The ME is such a popular thing that no one is going to look at him badly for playing it even conservatives would think it's cool.
