1. Players place their ante into the pot
2. Players are dealt 5 cards face down
3. All players choose 2 cards to discard
4. Clockwise from the BTN, each player chooses one card to "roll", i.e. turn one card face up
5. Using the same 3rd street "bring in" process as Stud 8, the card with the lowest value brings in, HOWEVER they can bring in for an ante or complete for anything up to the size of the pot (which in this case would be however many antes are in the pot)
6. Everything from this point on plays like regular Stud 8, however the players may bet up to the size of the pot on every street
Variations:
a) Instead of having players "roll" their own card in the beginning, the 5th card dealt will be face up (on 3rd street) and cannot be discarded
b) Deal 4 cards instead of 5 (on 3rd street), and variation "a" can still be applied (the 4th card can be dealt face up)
c) The game plays exactly like regular Stud 8, except every betting street is pot limit
This game has FIVE streets of pot sized betting rounds (as opposed to four), creating more action and excitement for everyone! If Courchevel is being spread, then this game should be too IMO
Maybe 3rd and 4th street can be FL, and 5th - 7th can be PL. Idk, something like that. Someone has to give this game a shot though, I seriously think it can take the poker world by storm and do what PLO was incapable of doing - attracting more new players to the game.
It's also a way to get poker back to its "roots" if you will...the game was built on Stud, and the reason people don't like stud is because of the limit structure. The variance and big pots in Super Stud is sure to bring in new players and keep them playing for a while
I played it live, pretty exciting game. But even at 1/2$ (or whatever was it in stud) pots got big very fast. Also played hi-lo version of this game, even crazier.
I can imagine this being horrifically slow to play and impossible to multi-table (and not very attractive to fish - hold'em's simplicity is very attractive) and thus no room is going to be very likely to want to spend time on it.
I have been playing this for years at our home games. We call it "Pitch One". We play it pot limit stud/8. It one of my favorite games. A few things. AAx and rolled up trips are not as strong as in regular stud 8. AAX(x needs to be a suited baby.)
We play it blinds $1/$1. It plays about as big as PL omaha/8 5 cards.
^How do you know that? That's definitely not true. Splitting the pot in the end for hi and lo adds for more chasing and incentive to re-buy
Bobby Hoff talked about pot limit stud hi-lo in his Deucescracked interview. It was one of the first games he played in College, and that was his analysis of the game
Half-potlimit would be the way to go.
Give us a 3x free 1,50$ tickets reload-week (For half-pot-limit Stud/Stud8/Razz MTT's of our choice), then offer HPL Stud-variant-MTT's up to 11-22$ and fire some SCOOP-Events next year, and then offer ZOOM-cash and tourneys to make it the new big thing after PLO. Zoom would be the perfect solution for difficult mutlti-tabling or slow games in Stud-variants, anyway.
Its funny, I said that 2-3 days ago in the PS-MTT-thread already.

If they put super stud Hilo and 5/6 card Omaha Hilo online I would have never leave the house. Get a lot of these games in dealers choice games that I play in. Sick action
I would love to see Stars spread mixed big bet games: i.e. .5 pot limit stud 8, .5 pot limit razz, .5 pot limit stud, nlhe, plo, plo8, nl27sd, pl27td. big bet 8 game! Would be sick.
Would it really kill a stars rep to respond to this thread
Wait, you're annoyed that Stars hasn't responded to a thread created on the weekend that is in no way, shape, or form addressed to them? IDK if they'd respond in the forums to something like this anyway, but to be frustrated that they haven't thus far is pretty silly IMO. Have you PMed anyone from Stars to let them know about the thread?
You should keep in mind that larger pots aren't always what sites want to see - once rake is capped, all they're doing is losing money.
Yes, I'm on the verge of suicide because no stars rep responded yet. Good read.
Nah, you're right about everything except for my "frustration", I have posted this link in the stars Internet Poker forum thread though. I guess my next move would be to PM them.
Larger pots = more action = more variance = more fish blaming lady luck = more rake
