Re: Sam Grizzle

Quote:
About 14 years ago, I was playing in a $150-$300 hold'em game at Commerce Casino. Early in the morning, Sam Grizzle walks in and starts commenting on how good the game is. When asked why he's not playing, he pulls out his bankroll ($2) and sarcastically asks how much the buy-in is.

He leaves, and after talking to Puggy Pearson, comes back with $10,000 and starts to play. Now, after about an hour, Sam and Puggy get into an argument (about what, I can't remember offhand), and Puggy picks up his $10,000 and half of what Sam was winning, leaving Sam with about $400, far short of the required buy-in. Fortunately for Sam, no one says anything. Sam goes all in five or six times right away, and in about four hours, he is winning around $40,000.

If this isn't amazing enough, Sam quits the game, announcing that he's going to do us a big favor and go play the tournament, allowing us to keep what money we had left. (He also told us how smart he was and dumb we were, of course.) You can guess what happened next: Sam the genius wins the tournament and another $120,000 to go with the $40,000 he won from us earlier that morning; not bad for a guy who showed up at the casino with $2 in his pocket.

It's now 6 a.m. and he's been in the Commerce Casino for exactly 24 hours. It's time to get some sleep; that is, if he were a normal human, but Sam's far from that. He comes up to the top section, where there's a tough $800-$1,600 razz game in progress. Sam stumbles over and bellies up to the table, losing his entire $160,000 in a fairly short period of time.

Instead of becoming upset, Sam simply told everyone how dumb they were, shook his head, and walked out of the casino with the exact same $2 he had showed up with the day before. Just another day in the life of a gambler.
<3 Sam

He was at B yesterday outside the poker room looking for some $$
He saw me seeing him and had a brief thought that he could get a buyin from me since one time a few months ago I listened to his old poker stories

Said sorry Sam I'm a little short today and then bought in big to the 10-20 game fun times

this is all true about sam grizzle and worst, ive lived the nightmare for 9 yrs and we brought a innocent child in to this mess,it is march 18,2008 me and my 7 yr old daughter have to leave our rented home today we've been evicted and she's been withdrawn out of her school for non-payment.we have no money and nowhere to go,sam snuck out yesterday never to return and left me and our daughter literally stranded on the streets to fend for ourselfs. the reason we were renting is because sam lost all the money from the sale of our home.about 600,000 worth and didnt even get us a new home.or any money for ourselves.weve had t o rent ever since. hes left us stranded before but never like this with absolutely nothing,im scared for me and my daughter he has ruined 2 lives, ive never told my side of the story ive always sat back and listened.but he cant get away with what he has done to us anymore.especially to my baby.he has ruined her life!!!!!!!.I dont know what we are going to do today when we have to leave here, but this is the true sam grizzle,he is everything and more of the things you have heard.

wsop, a guy is all in against sam. he asks the guy (an amateur) to show one of his cards. amateur does it. sam calls the floorman. Hand is dead because its not allowed to show a card. Amateur is out, sam takes the chips.

That sucks, I've read that in the past and I'll probably be vilified for it but this lady made a lot of stupid choices when the writing was probably all over the wall many times over. Sure Sam is responsible but she's responsible too for getting in that spot in the first place.

Seems like if sam wasnt around then she wouldn't be as well, so to say she ruined her life seems a bit far fetched.

Re: Sam Grizzle

While at Bellagio I saw Sam milling around for what seemed like a couple of hours. He must have finally got someone to stake him and he was playing 1/2 NL with about $100....

Previous times I have seen him he was always playing 5/10 NL so I guess he has fallen on hard times .....He seems like a pretty hilarious guy and I have always wanted to say hi to him but don't for fear he will hit me up for $...

6-7 years ago it's way more likely to be true, not to mention the latter part of the story suggests that sam didn't finish the tournament until the wee hours of the morning anyway.

Re: Sam Grizzle

my favorite Sam Grizzle story:

Anyway, things get pretty slow at my shop in the afternoons after the lunchtime rush, but during one particular shift, in walked professional poker player Sam Grizzle. While Sam wasn't nearly the most famous person I'd made a sandwich for (Pauly Shore had strolled in just a few days earlier with a craving for a ham and cheese), he was the first poker player.

"Mr. Grizzle!" I exclaimed excitedly as he strolled up to the counter. "Pleasure to meet you, sir!"
While my excitement showed with the big grin on my face, Sam seemed less than thrilled to meet me. "Let me get a large meatball," he grumbled, not even looking up at me.
"Coming right up," I said back, slicing a large piece of bread. "Back early from the table today?"
"Just make the damn sandwich, alright?" he shot back angrily. "I'm on a six month cold streak and all I want is a ****ing sandwich."
I was shocked. "I'm... I'm sorry, Sam. It's just that I moved out here to play professionally, and it's always great to meet an actual pro."
"You moved out here to play professionally, and now you're making me sandwiches for minimum wage. You must be a real good player" Sam said sarcastically.

At this point, I decided it would probably best to keep my mouth shut and just make the sandwich so Sam could leave while I still had some dignity and self respect. But he pressed on.

"God damnit...three ****ing meatballs?" he whined. "And you barely put any sauce on there! You can't play poker or make a damn sandwich!"

I frantically scooped more meatballs onto his sub.

"Aw, damnit!" Sam screamed. "Now you're making a mess of everything. Where's the damn manager?"

There's only so much a man can take. Without even thinking, I grabbed the entire sub and heaved it at Sam's face. He fell backwards and flattened a small table, where thankfully, no one was sitting. (I was being scouted by a half dozen different pro teams before I had Tommy John, so I know that meatball heater to the face HURT).

With Sam unconscious and still writhing on the floor, I reached into his pocket and pulled out a wad of cash. Looks like Sam didn't lose it all. I removed my apron, placed it on the counter, and piled into my car for a short ride to the strip to play some no limit.

Comfortably seated in a chair at Caesar's Palace, I counted out my newfound bankroll.

"Not bad," I thought to myself with a smile. "Not bad at all."

While I obviously can't go back to work, I'm hoping I'll be able to grind out this new bounty of cash that fell into my lap.
