Im quoting a friend. I wasnt the victim

Cliffs:
- Friend rents room at RIO in his name and has a roomate
- Friend's roomate brings an aquaintence into room (whose name is not associated with the room)
- Roomates acquaintence is left in room alone
- Valuables are expected to be safe while inside the hotel room safe
- While alone, acquaintance is able to call front desk and have them send somebody to unlock safe ignoring protocol and ID checks
- $15,000 is stolen and rio tries to cover thier ass

Quote:
These guys are complete frauds and fail at every element of customer service. Stayed here for the WSOP, the night before I was supposed to check out I find out that my hotel safe was emptied out. Apparently my roommate left this sketchy guy he just met named Omar Ghanim in the room alone, assuming the money was secure in the safe.

I found out (off the record, he refused to say anything that could be recorded) via one of the security guys that someone had called in from the room during this time period to maintenance asking them to open the safe.

So the Rio staff completely ignored protocol and opened my safe for someone whose name was not on the room without checking ID. Now they are trying to cover their ass and won't divulge any information. I have filed a claim with risk management but I feel that everyone should be aware of their negligence.

Over $15k in safe combined from me and my roommate fwiw. If that wasn't bad enough, they managed to overcharge me as well. As I was scheduled to check out that morning and had spent 5 hours filing out police and incident reports I asked to get some rooms comped for the weekend. At first they claimed to be full but eventually relented and said they had rooms available but still were trying to charge, which is beyond laughable considering the situation.

I explicitly told the front desk manager I wasn't going to be spending another dime there and I would stay somewhere else if necessary. She told me she thought she could get it comped through the casino host and would go ahead and book the room, and that she would let me know the next morning if it wasn't going to be comped.

Next day rolled around and I never heard anything, I called the front desk and was told that my new room was ready, I again asked if I was going to be charged and he said he saw no new charges.

Roll around to Sunday morning and I find out I'm supposed to check out, apparently Sunday is not a weekend in the Rio's eyes. Even worse, I check my email the next day to see my bill from the Rio which shows that they charged me for both weekend nights despite being explicitly told that it was going to be comped or I would be told beforehand if not.

I've called them 4 separate times about this issue and all I've gotten is that they have to wait back to hear from the front desk manager before they can do anything. I have yet to receive one single apology btw for all these incidents, forget getting any of my money back yet.

These people should be brutally ashamed of how they have treated me. I am going to let everyone know through as many social outlets as possible about this low brow establishment until I get reimbursed for every dollar I am owed

I hope this isn't considered victim blaming but leaving someone you don't know in your room with valuables and 15k cash is utterly absurd and the roommate is to blame. I know, I know, the security didn't follow protocol but those guys aren't Rio Security because they finished top of the class at Quantico

Roommate is to blame here.

So much idiocy involved in all this. RIO are partially to blame, but why would the room mate leave, what I can only imagine to be a hooker or a random pick up, in the room by themselves? That's just asking for trouble.

Roommate was either in on it or a really stupid person. Probably both.

I remember when i had forgot my code to the safe at the Rio and they just came up and they just asked me to show the card for the room and they opened it for me, nothing else was needed.

Well there is no point in safe if all it takes is to be in room and call front desk to open it.

Smart

I wouldn't ever class a hotel safe as "secure". They can be opened in a matter of seconds with the right equipment/knowledge (that all hotels have).

Im a little surprised with the responses here. Isnt the safe there for protection? Isnt there an expectation your valuables inside the safe are in fact... safe? If not, what is the point of the safe? Its just smoke and mirrors. You guys are acting like they left the money on the table in the room. This was inside a safe.

So you guys are saying money inside a safe is just as safe as leaving it on the table? Elaborate

their defense will likely be, what's to stop op and his roommate from colluding trying to pull a fast one on us? Your money is gone, you're not getting it back, obv pick better roommates.

You can get a safe unlocked by the front desk just by being in the room, sweet. This sounds ******ed unless the roommate was in on it, or something was left out.. maybe I'm reading this wrong.

Honestly I doubt you could win in court against the RIO.

You are not paying for insurance on the money that is going into the safe.

A staff member that opens the safe is just opening it and the real person doing something unlawful is the person stealing the money.

If RIO was smart they would probably give you comps for free rooms up to 15k worth to avoid bad publicity.
Then they would make it so everyone follows ID in future or continue to hand out more comps.

They know that they won't lose in court so its not worth 15k and I guess they don't care about bad publicity on this issue. I'm not a lawyer just speculating btw.

you would be right if the room was empty, but as soon as they called from room phone it could be considered an identity proof. If the guy was drinking out of the fridge or ordered a nice meal with expencive wine, the rio would have to pay for it?
Would you leave an unknown person, in your home alone?

My room was missing a TV remote. There was no power button on the TV or anyway to turn it on. Called front desk multiple times a day. Took them 3 days to get it to me.

100% roommates fault and he's responsible for paying your friend back.

- Why did roommate bring a "sketchy guy" back to the room
- why did he leave said guy in room
- where did he go? It would take a while for security to get up there to unlock safe, around 20 - 30 minutes
- where was your friend
- how did roommate meet this guy

Call Caesars corporate and ask their policy on unlocking room safes
call Nevada gaming commission and ask if their is a policy on this
talk to security at Rio and ask their policy on this, if they broke policy they should be responsible but you'll need to have some kind of proof of what was in safe
even if they broke policy it's roommates fault!

Has metro been called and a report filed? You have the guys name and picture talk to security and show picture to security who opened safe ask if that was the guy in the room if yes file report and press charges if no show picture of roommate if it was roommate file report press charges and sue.
