Online poker sites began to study his intense and aggressive style, and admirers followed his every card. "GL" they'd write, online poker slang for "Good Luck."
wtf, this sounds like it was written by a sophomore

"When poker's the only thing in your life, your happiness is totally dependent on whether you're winning or losing," Silverman says, "which is basically out of your control."

Well put.

This article is poor imo.
It spends an awful lot of time talking about how he "won millions".
It spends no time at all talking about how he lost it.

Which is too much of an important detail not to talk about.

So it gives a very unbalanced view of poker.

Nothing 'll make you go from taking your kid to gamblers anonymous to making scrapbooks about poker like realizing other people think he's important for what he does

Did he actually lose back most of what he won? It didn't sound like it from the article. I thought the article was very good....well balanced and did a good job explaining poker jargon to a general audience. But maybe the headline was a little misleading...this is usually written by an editor, not the author of the article.

My point exactly.
He did lose it all, but the article conveniently brushes over this unpleasant truth, and barely even mentions it (aside from the title).
Its an interesting story, but the standard of journalism was very poor.

The reason people don't post full articles is because of copyright reasons afaik. You can post a snippet and a link to the full version.

very slack journalism imo, the only decent part of the article was about the tension poker caused with his unsupportive parents especially his mother, even though it wasn't really fleshed out. the writer having very little clue about poker didn't help, also omitting his downswing and how that affected him to make the choices he did thereafter is ridiculous.
