CANCEL ALL REMAINING EVENTS, ITS A DISASTER

There are now 68 events, up from 45 or so in the boom years... at some point attendance per event has to drop, even if demand stays strong (which it won't forever).

Ever try wiring US$10K+ plus into the US the last year?
The US government is not making it as easy as it once was.

If I was a casino employee I would much prefer to play the Colossus for the same price.

That could account for a loot.

Its because nobody was in Vegas on Wednesday right after SCOOP.

Its early in the series.

The dollar is strong which prolly discourages players from the Euro zone, but particularly from Russia.

Lastly the drop in entries is just keeping up with a downward trend in the NLHE events with medium sized buy in. The number of entries in that event has gone from 1001, 784, 696 and now 422 the last 4 series. Looking at the rest of the 2.5k, 3k and 5k NLHE events u see a similar trend.

I was there yesterday and while I cannot explain the Casino Employee event attendance, I can say without a doubt that it was the busiest first day I've seen EVER at the Rio, with virtually every satellite table being used, and dozens of cash game tables, not to mention the Colossus event nearing 20,000 runners, and the line to sign up for events well over an hour long.

A lot of us dealers got early EO'd because it was not busy enough but were warned that it will be extremely busy this weekend. There is NO panic at the moment. lol

I predict the field sizes in the much tougher $3k+ buy-in events will continue to drop. The opening $5k event is ridiculously tough - why would anyone who is not a top caliber pro even bother with it? Most rec players and non 'top' MTT pros will find much better value playing in the smaller buy-in large field WSOP events, particularly the 'gimmicky' ones...because of this we'll see the biggest WSOP we have ever seen before. Poker isn't dead.

Plus it seems silly to compare last year's $5k to this year, considering last year the event took place much later in the WSOP.

Spot on. For the same price recs can play 4x colossus and 2x milly maker.

$215, T50,000, 90 min levels, 5 day, bracelet- because the demand is there...

Roll it back
$1500=T1500 $10000=T10000
Shocking I know.

always like your posts 4th... but trying to draw any conclusions from first two events is sort of like saying you will ship milly maker because you doubled up in level 1.

It will be long hot summer.

summer is coming.

There are other poker tournaments that go on at the same time as the WSOP. So just because the wsop numbers may drop you cannot conclude that poker's popularity is declining.

The low buy-in events are much better value now that starting stacks have increased. You'd expect numbers will be up in these when they start running.

What was the $1500 Omaha 8 attendance past five years.

The last two years it was just over 1000, both times a record.
I guess it was down a bit this year, but I wonder how many people gave up on later registering because all the registration lines were so ridiculously long this afternoon.

Colossus and Millionaire Maker in the first two weeks will be the target of the bulk of recreational players, their numbers will be huge (esp Colossus) and other events in the first 2 weeks will be down because of it; also SCOOP only just finished so a lot of Europeans etc getting in late, plus strong USD = non American players may be playing slightly fewer events due to buyins being bigger in their native currently (I know I sold ~5% more than I had planned to this summer because of the strong USD relative to AUD atm compared to past couple years to bring my investment in line with what I had budgeted towards events)

Lol. Obviously not.

I don't see how anyone could possibly conclude that pokers popularity has declined.
