Just saw this on my twitter feed.

https://twitter.com/BetStars

Claims to be a sports betting site run by Pokerstars. The link provided in the account just redirects it to Pokerstars though.

PS has sportsbetting within the client since end of march (for some regions) ... BetStars went online yesterday and is just a new platform/brand (you could also bet via browser at the pokerstars site before)

The Casino button in the top of the stars software now says "Poker / Bet" Instead of casino, so they put the casino/sports thing into the "Bet" subcategory. Stars is a brand now like 888 (who also have 888bingo ftw). I think the good thing is that non-poker reg-sportsbetter will punt around their winnings in poker games instead of vice versa. If you wanted to do so, you'd be a member at party or 888 already.

I did suggest the Pokerstars should introduce betting on their online MTTS. They could run an exchange at the start of all the final tables and take 5% commission on the bets. They could then allow betting every time there is a break.

i'm still wondering, why PS 'only' came up with sportsbetting and not with a bet-trading platform like betfair. but obv idk, who much this would cost them to implement/run

Maybe they would need a different gaming licence or something like that. It sounds like a good idea to me.

Clearly PS is using the _____stars convention.

Because of all the DFS uncertainty, they should try to buy draftstars

Starsdraft is so tilting.

A Spin & Go type element in sports betting would be fun. I would like to see what innovations they come up with.

To follow up on my previous comment:

Say you bet $10 on Barca to win and the return is 1.5. Now something spins or whatever and your odds change to anywhere up to 1000 times payout, so if Barca wins, you get anywhere from even money to 15000 to 1.

Obviously, this would not be a standard sports bet, but a lottery element one they could also offer. I think it would be fun.

Hey BetStars, if you end up using my idea, send some moolah my way!

That idea is just so crazy it might work (but they really should change the name to DraftStars first only because, you know, it MAKES MORE SENSE as you are actually drafting "stars" for teams etc.)

Don't count on getting **** from stars. I emailed them an idea about table layouts that was genius and not only did they never even respond, they used my idea and never even said "Thank You".

Letting the same entity that controls the RNG and other elements of gameplay also make book on the outcome of the tourney? Seems legit

Yes that looks problematic. Still it is a potential betting opportunity.

With a bunch of Xmas bonuses, cash exchanging hands over the next few weeks, bowl games and NBA games, it's no surprise. I assume this rollout still excludes Michigan and Nevada? Pretty great timing. NJ should be up just after the new year for poker. WSOPC comes to Atlantic City, March 15-26. Stars should be pushing Main Event sattys and possibly an announcement for the return of the NAPT. I bought stock the day of the NJ announcement. So far it's been pretty tough seeing some of the decisions. On one hand, I see it as they are thinking like a publicly traded company. On the other, it absolutely sucks that the SNEs are having to deal with this. I didn't buy the stock for a short-term investment. I expect a lot of great things over the next year. If not, I will accept the lose. This company was founded by some people who really understood the player's needs. I feel like even if Stars was publicly traded during the previous owner's tenure, different decisions would have been made. Step up Stars and do the right thing. Yes, that includes some reductions in SNE benefits. Let's see you exercise some balance and become the company that Blackstone expected. They don't just give out 4.9 Billion USD.

You can already do an accumulator between two or more different bets, e.g bet ManU to win multiplied by ball number 14 coming out on the Irish lottery.

What was the idea? Very poor from Stars if that's the case.

I would think if anything this would make a lot of the markets where pokerstars operates in a grey area but no one really cares or actively goes after them pay a lot more attention and be an incredibly bad idea.

In Australia sportsbetting is very heavily regulated. There have been a few politicians (Xenophon being one) that have an issue with pokerstars and argue against it almost being pure gambling. Having pure gambling in the client whether that be casino or sportsbetting is going to do nothing but help their argument as it is no longer just against poker but the site/industry itself.

^ Isn't sportsbetting potentially a skilled activity though? There are professional poker players and sports-betters, but no professional roulette players.

What the **** has that got to do with selling a service in a regulated market when you are not approved to do so?

Sportsbetting can involve skill for sure but is applicable to a very small % of players/bettors. I would think the number of skilled poker players where it makes a positive difference would be a lot larger than the number of skilled sports bettors but I by no means have anything to support this opinion
