Agree with this. There is a lot of crap in NVG but there is also some very useful information.

Hope you get your money back WCG.

If you have to ask people if you should loan someone money DONT DO IT.

You gain no respect for loaning money, you just get seen as a pushover. If youre loaning money to people who arent your very closest friends, you are THAT GUY. THAT GUY isnt cool awesome guy whos great to hang out with. THAT GUY is "hey theres that guy i barely know and dont feel bad about ripping off cos he wont do ****".

No upside at all

Upside is he didn't have to pay the 5-10% vig he would usually pay to get money off Merge.

I hope you end up getting in touch with Brad and end up getting your money back. It's a shame that so many well-known poker 'heroes' are such degens and scumbags.

Yes, sadly have to agree on this being quite likely. I'm guessing he would have asked for much more if it was possible as well.

Considering Lock funds go for .85-.90 on the dollar, it would seem that the transfer offered WCG plenty of upside.

Seems like a really bad spot to scam someone considering how well known OP is and how many people would be willing to help him trainwreck Brad Booth over such a trivial amount of money.

it goes for .85-.9 mainly for people in the US. withdrawing from non-US MB is easy (well, once ur account is verified, and the only real vig is wiring it from non-US bank to US bank) and im pretty sure WCG was set up in Canada so it shouldnt have been hard to withdraw the regular way. altho if he was in the US then it would be way easier to do this transfer w/Brad

Brad is worth considerably less than nothing so it's not a trivial amount of money to him. It's a hope that he can run it up and have a life again. He'll scam for that hope.

Also, the posts that don't get why it happened what's not to get? You usually can't turn 30K cash into 30K online money from USA in any easy, direct way. You usually can't turn 30K online into 30K cash in the USA in any easy, direct way. There are obvious non-scummy reasons for both parties to be interested in the deal.

Any idea if he played much after the transfer? Would be nice to know if he degened it up, dumped it to someone, or just cashed it out.

while the last bit is true and I can see how you think that way. I'd like to say...is this really always the case?

If you play poker and get to a high enough level of where you are playing above say 2/5nl you can afford to be taking risks on sending money because part of how you got there was always trading, taking shots and buying peoples action. the more successful of a poker player you are usually the more you engage and seem to diversify your winnings (or expected ev winnings) so thus the more you loan out money. if you are a nit and never loan out money then you are not fully taking the +EV routes to making more money. this isnt to say you cant be smart about who you loan to, but to not loan out money to a select few is crazy.

putting yourself into a position where you can get scammed is not always the worse situation ---- if you are smart about it.

edit: by loaning out money, i mean engaging in financial transactions where we trade online $$$ for cash etc.
sincerly,

someone who loans money

He wasn't a bad player no, in fact he was pretty good.

But he's clearly very bitter about what happened to him and I don't he'll ever get over that.
