Which players deserve their own containment thread? Which players deserve their own containment thread?

07-22-2015 , 03:12 AM
There was some discussion in a recent NVG thread (I forget which) about containment threads, and players like Dwan maybe deserving one of their own. Then there was talk that you could publish the contents of their containment thread as a profitable book through 2+2 Publishing. It is all very murky.

My question is, which players deserve containment threads?

Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

That is not what a containment thread is.

Dwan for sure needs one.

I'd rather see many DN, Hellmuth and Dwan threads than just one marathon thread for each of them. The witty titles is half the fun.

Still wondering why my Marcel Luske thread was locked.

I have done my basic research: "The poker player Ravenswood13 was first discovered by HighstakesDB on the high stakes tables of PokerStars on Thursday, October 27, 2011. Since then, a total of 128414 poker hands with Ravenswood13 playing have been tracked from Omaha PL games.Oct 27, 2011"

Dets?

I guess the nature of the threads I start is that they are a bit fifth level. The questions posed are not obvious. For example, Boba Fett thought that the "containment" thread was essentially about which poker players are the most popular. The real question I posed was which posters have an interesting enough narrative in 2+2 for a containment thread of their stuff/about them to exist. And by extension something valuable in terms of intellectual property.. like a book could be made of it.

I gave two wildly divergent examples to start the conversation, but both were unified in appearing at the top of 2+2 NVG consistently in their own thread (mrwong a little more than Bilz lately).

To explain a little further:

What I was after in this thread relates to the kind of thing I am interested in and could not find a ready answer for. My key insight was that many of the 2+2 members with the most interesting and extensive writing about poker are not those who would ever appear on an "influencers" list (such as the Pokerheroes one in that ubiquitous forum banner ad).

Here's what I said in my PM to you:

Containment threads don't happen because someone "deserves" them. They happen when everyone gets tired of many threads about the same person, many of which cover the same ground. At some point, mods decide that it's time to merge the threads.

I won't touch the silliness of publishing a book based on the contents of such a thread.

Once you remove the containment thread aspect, your thread is just a "who are the great players" thread - pretty sure that's been covered a few million times before.

Wait, what? Guess I missed those two wildly divergent examples in this fifth level OP:

If Shulenberger had a containment thread, it would still clutter the first page of NVG.

Bobo, The actual Bilz/mrwong example is given on page one of this thread, my mistake. I see the reason for your confusion.

I also see your point of mods creating containment threads for reasons of weariness, not inspiration. I guess I was looking at the 'containment' concept from a new angle, that is of its potential as a repository for quality posts or narratives within a single thread, instead of scattered throughout 2+2 subforums.

As an example, I would be interested to read the collected posts of someone like Arty McFly without having to laboriously use the search function and trawl through hundreds of unrelated threads.

Can a mod give this chap an undertitle, 'inept'.
It is currently 'adept'. He really isn't.

Shulenburger needs a thread where he can put all his posts/photos, journal entries etc. Don't think it would be bad thing to have a dwan thread considering he has most threads created about himself.
