Back from my stint in the PPC minors in Florida (making actual money for poker writing, go figure) I touch down and pronto the taxi driver to the Rio. Walking down eerily empty halls, I feel like I have been dropped from outer space into time warp Thunderdome. Apparently some kid named Negreanu is still in it, rocking it like it’s 2005. (Rumor is circulating that he has a $100k prop bet with an unhealthy degen named Stealthmunk. Something about who can eat the most burgers on break).

If no one objects I’ll start this photo rich WSOP thread, as I don’t want to slow people’s sweat or break the Interwebs. If you open this thread, you should expect a delay while artfully out-of-focus shots materialize + random insights.

Apparently Stealthmunk still has his bib on from the prop bet - no word on who won (but Negreanu looks ready for another nine burgers) - it was held in a secluded corner of the Hash Haus.

"I was so going over the top of you" Thomas Cannuli keeps repeating after Negreanu preemptively pushes him off the pot on a :Kh :8s :2d board when :5s hits. Not so sure about that, but DNegs has added 2 million to his stack.

lack of sleep is a hell of a drug. Surprisingly common by the time you get to day seven of any major tournament.

A major Schwartz - Negreanu confrontation. Limped preflop. DNegs bets 525k on 8-5-5 flop... Schwartz calls. Turn 5 checked. Schwartz bets out 1.3m on river. Negreanu agonizes before calling, sees bad news that Stealthmunk flopped a boat with pocket eights. Understandable call...

Negreanu comes up into the stands.. talks with Erik Lindgren "Did you see that? I even asked him 'do you have pocket eights?' and I called anyway... I had two sixes. I don't think he has eights very often. Only thing is, if he has a flush draw - only hand I could have beat - I don't think he would have .... (unintelligible)

agonizing decision.

called it!

Sick sick hand .. Stealthmunk burnishes legend.

A 10-10-2 flop against Federico Butteroni. 7 turn, Ace river.. diamond flush draw comes in on the river. Schwartz now bets out 2.2 million into a 4.8m pot - Basically putting his tournament life at risk. With a still healthy stack behind, Butteroni tanks, stares down his hoodied opponent. After two minutes Stealth calls a clock on his opponent (!) Down to five seconds, Butteroni makes a very reluctant fold. Stealth dramatically throws his cards on the felt 9-2, or bottom pair.

Lindgren comments that Schwartz was repping a very narrow range, basically a full house or a flush.. even a 10 would probably not bet out on that river. Later turns out that Butteroni had pocket jacks. Negreanu comes up in the stands to confer with Lindgren. A couple fragments: "lot of lessons from that hand ... called the clock .. opening up."

Now down to 18 players, redraw time. Negreanu says of the feature table, "I know the Asian kid.. you got a really different dynamic now."

Clock called.

Fold.

Stealthmunk owns Butteroni, revels in his evil genius.

Okay, I heard dets of a huge hand that Negreanu called the "biggest hand of my life." But I have promised not to reveal it.. I guess people will find out in a couple months, if the WSOP film editors are on their game.

It's hard to say who has the biggest balls at the table now, and that is saying a lot. This November Nine could be the most entertaining ever.

They are still talking about the Day 6 pocket queens preflop fold at the table. Apparently the guy laddered but busted shortly thereafter. My basic question is, granted you folded queens (within the realm of ICM possibility). Why ever show? Unless you have some diabolical plot to go all Stealthmunk on the table after that hand.

Negreanu revels in his own ballsiness & Butteroni wonders how the **** that all-in Munk hand went down.

David Peters all in for last 2.5m vs. Negreanu, who has chipped up significantly to 11 million. Flop and turn are fine for Peters 3, 6, Q, 2, but a river ace nails the door on Peters' tournament hopes.

Looking good for Peters.

Ouch!

Now start the inevitable complaints about ****ty photos. Still on my $120 Canon.

Joe McKeehen raises, Daniel Negreanu reraises, Joe pushes all in for 9m. Negreanu tanks for a long time verbally telling Joe that he has A-K. Finally lays down and shows. Loses 2.63m on the pot.

Up in the stands DNegs says to Brian and Erik: "I don’t know the guy.. If I call I have nothing - I'm down to 3 million. I have 10 million now…."

Someone asks "If you have kings?" “If I have kings I call..” Negreanu runs back at the table, still working it out. “If I have queens…” quizzical look, no pat answer.

A couple huge hands. Alex Turyansky raises 500k preflop, Daniel Negreanu calls and Josh Beckley sees a flop in the big blind. The cards come :Qd :Jh :9d and Negreanu bets 850K. Beckley calls and Turyansky raises to 2.2m, with Beckley coming over the top for 5.3 m. Negreanu comes to the stands and talks about having dodged one, even before the cards are tabled. Beckley has flopped a queen high straight and Turyansky has two pair. He fails to fill out and Beckley is up to 13m, while the Russian has moved down to 10m.

The exact moment Alex (hands up) sees he is against a straight. And Negreanu realizes he really, really, dodged one.

Beckley safe for now.

Next hand: George McDonald risks his last 4.3m with pocket sevens and Joe McKeehen tables pocket aces. The board runs out J-8-6-5-9 to give McDonald a miracle straight and keep him in the tournament. Joe Giron captures this action head on.

McDonald steeling himself to exit Thunderdome.

Now can hit a seven or a nine for a straight.

Is there anything stronger than water?

Stealthmunk Blow-up and Bust

Justin Schwartz got it all-in with Joe McKeehen, set over set. Here are some pics of that impressive bustout.

Schwartz doing the math on how many chips he can get with trip deuces on a 6-3-2 flop after Turyansky bets 700,00.

McKeehen picks up on Stealthmunk's interest in the pot...

... & experiences something akin to pity after munk's shove.

Calls anyway.

Owwww.

You can just see Munk praying behind the DNeg photobomb.

"If I'm lost at sea, Tell my mother, my father, my sisters, my brother, My friends and my foes, and all my past lovers, That I will miss them so. But lord, I had to go."

The ESPN crews do their ambulance chasing thing. In before "Stealthmunk seen exiting Rio with actual woman" thread to note that I saw her & boyfriend see him off to a taxi.

And yes... obviously Joe Giron does it better.

You take insight where you get it. Just happened to sit next to ME chip leader Joe McKeenan's longtime friend and backer Nicholas Verkaik. We railed the action and talked about McKeenan's background in poker. The conversation ends with Matt Guang's exit in 13th.
