Pretty cool. Not exactly sure why would pokerstars and stars group need someone to develop AI to play poker, but I am interested to see where they go with it

Help create a suite of game theory optimal (GTO) analysis tools
They want to create new products by leveraging their vast hand history data. They will then sell them in exchange for moneys.

Looks like there will be more to it than developing bots for the purpose of training customers to play better poker.

Confirmed, more money to be made running bots on a poker site than owning a poker site.

Could be a honeypot for catching current botters.
Or they will use it for improving their bot detection.

Whoever possesses the skills they are asking for will make more money doing other things than taking this job

and as far as developing AI/GTO tools goes, their HH database of 160bil hands is pointless. A supercomputer will simulate that in a short period of time, for training a bot/tool. Their hh database is only interesting for doing analysis of how people play stuff

I think it's a very logical considering the future end game of online poker.

My guess is that in future sites will offer the traditional raked version of poker where people player against other (alleged) human opponents. On top of that, sites will offer their "casino poker" where you can play rake-free against house's near-GTO opponents. I would guess that rake free short-stack HU SNGs vs house opponents will be in the very near'ish future. I wonder if deep stack 6-max NL/PLO will be ever offered as "casino poker", as it would probably take too much computing power to run profitably. However, who knows what will happen when we approach supposed singularity...

This doesn't necessarily mean they won't take the job. In fact I'm pretty sure they will. So what then.

could be various projects so who knows. having said that, having a 'bot' playing power up against itself, should be an efficient way to spot unbalanced powers much faster than any trial with human players

Yup if you know the trend of GTO, you can catch cheaters that steal money from sites.

There are lots of qualified people for that job who work at universities or other research facilities right now. I'd assume most of them do that for significantly less money.

I might agree if you said those people "could" make more money doing something else.

Think crypto is going to be the biggest change tho - reason banks and insurers are taking a serious look at blockchain is massively decreased expenses - presumably online poker will have a lot less rake.

Based on how good Libratus is sites could offer well over 100% rb to face a bot heads-up.

Apparently they are not doing it for game integrity.

Seems bad they want to create something that would kill all of the games online, if anyone got their hands on it.

They figure that the bots can steal your money faster than the rake.

Brilliant!

I don't think it will be rake-free If a top human learned to beat a house bot, Stars would be losing a lot of money, so they'll charge configurable rake to make any human's winrate negative.

Human regs are too expensive to maintain (gambling commissions require to allow humans to withdraw), house bots would do the entertainment and deposits-to-rake conversion job for less money.

Skrill buying NETeller was probably one of the worst things happening to online transaction landscape. Anyone have an idea how much does Skrill total of PokerStars deposits? Probably not majority, but a good chunk. And Skrill takes a MASSIVE vig for money transactions, which is ludicrous considering they basically just move bits around. (Skrill tries to charge 2,25% or something insane even if you convert a mid 5-fig sum from USD to EUR in their site.)

^ Libratus comment above. Poker, Chess and GO aren't back-and-forth battles between humanity and computers. Once computers beat humans, it's only gonna get worse.
But I agree humans could definitely have leg up in other variants in poker. E.g. deep PLO 6-max with antes. But sites aren't probably gonna start offering these niche games nowhere soon.

I applied. They also have some jobs in New Jersey, but not AI related. I'm from NJ but willing to relocate to the UK.

I don't think I'll get it but I've been into AI, machine learning and deep learning (which is the hottest of all 3 maybe?) for a minute..

Recruiter recommended it.
