I regret taking the insulting line that I did, because now we've devoted a number of posts to me, and my tone, and that really shouldn't be the focus. That's my fault - I could have communicated my opinion without being such a dick.

My point is this: you (collectively, as moderators) are delving into the realm of thought police with your actions. I don't think the role of internet message board moderators ought to be to decide what is good or valid information worthy of our time. Your role should be to remove trolls and police libel and maliciousness. Not filter out information on my behalf because you think you know what's best.

Thus - in my opinion, your actions ARE driven by self importance and come from a place of duty, driven by ego. Essentially, you take your job more seriously and define it differently than I would. Which is fine - I don't make the rules. I'm a guest here, and I should try not to be so insulting.

I just don't and can't see the justification for meddling in a missing persons thread because you found the content counterproductive. I'd submit that perhaps all the dialogue around mental state is in bounds and relevant to the overall subject. I just think that less is more when it comes to moderating, and I have zero interest in critiquing you - I was just disappointed to see that the conversation I logged in to see had been censored.

Bobo is right. Instead of criticizing him, let us celebrate his recent award.

Fair enough. 2+2 and you see things differently, and that's fine. I've seen forums where they let almost anything go, and a lot of people enjoy that. I've also seen forums that are modded a lot tighter, and they also attract a large audience that prefer such a style. Either way, you're certainly not the first person to feel that moderating should be much looser here, and you won't be the last.

Just two points I'll take a little exception to. Thought police - no, I don't think that's remotely close to a description of what's going on. But perhaps we just differ on the meaning of that expression. And the self-importance/ego-driven thing is a little silly IYAM. Not going to say that every moderating decision ever made here is free of ego, just like I wouldn't say the same for every post. But I can see no compelling reason to believe that this particular decision is ego-driven.

Maybe try POG or google search. Pokemon Go has nothing to do with NVG and your post content is not even close to "1/3 less content than a regular NVG thread" as the thread title states.

Interesting how a "noob" (*wink wink*) can start a soo nothing-to-do-with-poker-or-NVG thread and 5 months later its still going strong. Makes ya wonder which mod started a gimmick so he could deliberately go against NVG rules and post a ****ty politics thread in NVG when theres 2 politics threads on 2+2 already.

The vast majority of "well, my post isn't as OT as these ones" posts are terrible, and that one's no exception. I won't bother going into all of examples, and will cherry pick the ones that are obviously worst - we don't have a podcast forum.

But really, what does any of that matter? There are borderline and subjective moderating decisions made in NVG all the time. Trying to find some to justify a Pokemon Go post in NVG is just silly.

Just noticed we're not allowed to block a 'moderator/admin' - some of them post *a lot* about things that have nothing to do with moderating ... would it be possible for them to have different screen names for their official duties so we can put them on block for the rest of their posts? Feel like that would be a plus with no downside if they had different names ...

It's certainly possible, but I don't see it happening any time soon - seems like a lot of hassle to ask a volunteer to go through just so you don't have to read their posts.

It is possible to do this. The answer lies in the depths of ATF, but I'm not sure if Admins want to encourage this so i won't link to it and you'll have to find it for yourself. That is if you read this post before it gets deleted
