There have been a lot of problems with high profile tournaments lately.

It has gotten to the point where tournament organisers are slapping on huge guarantees on tournaments for the sole reason that prior to the tournament it provides them with massive exposure and free advertising for their event but when the event starts the guarantee has been removed.

It is nothing short of scamming players and in the poker industry it is up to the players to police the industry. Our most valuable resource is our ability to vote with our money.

Players see these guarantees and book time off work, book flights and hotels, make sacrafices in the run up to the tournament to put money aside and may be taking their annual holiday to play the tournament.

We need to make it clear to tournament organisers that these false guarantees are not acceptable "marketing" techniques. To that end I suggest that any event that uses a false guarantee technique is countered with a boycott campaign and possibly we lobby the owners of poker forums to delete any threads related to any event run by an organiser who has been shown to have used a false guarantee. If you are not willing to honor a guarantee then don't advertise one. Estimated prizepools are borderline and usually on the high side for obvious reasons but a guarantee should be set in stone!

I didn't know this was happening, examples? I know lots of tournaments that reserve the right to cancel if they don't make their guarantees, but letting a tourney run for less than promised is a scam.

There's big thread about Partouche on the first page of NVG. Everybody is surprised and pissed. It does not seem to be a trend.

I'll second the vote to delete the thread. That'll show them. We should lobby to delete all other proof of the guarantee as well.

Considering the Partouche Poker Tour's final event will end this weekend, and the Epic Poker League went bankrupt, the point appears moot.
