Here's a weird article that's tangentially related. It's about a high class mistress who runs poker games and got arrested for betting on the world cup.

http://www.smh.com.au/world/guo-meim...05-100fp2.html

Quote:
The high-stakes poker home game in Beijing began after Ms Guo befriended an unidentified foreign professional poker player on one of her many jaunts to Macau.

A professional dealer was hired, and millions of yuan changed hands at the felt, from which Ms Guo took a 3 to 5 per cent rake.

Yes. If you buy insurance and have a bad beat they usually give you the chips immediately which will be in play.

Brian Rast has some interesting stuff to say about his experience of Macau (along with other subjects) in the latest episode of the Thinking Poker Podcast.

The idea of skipping past Andrew and Nate's strategy talk offends me, but if you're in a hurry, the interview starts at 30 minutes in.

A question that may have already been answered somewhere in these 234 pages... How does one buy into the big game? Not how do you get invited, I mean what are the logistics of handing the poker room $2M in exchange for chips and plaques? Wire transfer? Bags of cash? As a recreational player at a casino, I go to the cashier's cage, hand a frumpy middle-aged woman a few hundred bucks and get a rack of chips in return. I imagine there is no cash there, so would the big game players flag over Mr. Winfred Yu or one of his associates to buy in or reload?

Go back to the last page or two. Tom Hall's last post discusses junkets whose job it is to exchange cash, iirc.

Thanks, figures it was right under my nose.

So, these players would have int'l bank accounts, transfer money to these junket operators and when they arrive in Macau they would rendezvous with the operators who would give them the money in cash? Or chips?

Are the junkets not there mainly for the natives? I thought they were to get round some rules re: bringing cash from mainland China to Macau? Surely Tourists or ex-Pats could just transfer cash from a bank account?

Yup, very curious how it works.

In the interview on the other page Brian Rast talks about how in the last he uses to just send money from LV Venetian to Macau Venetian as there used to be no exchange fees big now they're making it more dificult. Anyway, the impression I got was that the casinos held the money electronically (like a bank account) and you could withdraw/deposit in chips. Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

A glimpse of how the Macau games might play can be seen in this crazy hand from the Aussie Millions Cashgame.

Cliffs: Pot is 85k, so Lo double checks he has a straight by counting 6-7-8-9-10 out loud, gives off about 350 live tells, and then ships 5.5 x pot. Phua confirms that ten to six is a straight... and calls off half a million with top set anyway.

Just your standard $1 million cooler... with added noodles.

Obviously the stakes they are playing aren't a big deal to those 2 guys. Must be nice.

I'm sure him spewing a few 100k to you during the session might make it easier to deal with.

The insurance talk was interesting too, Rono bought like 300k in that hand.
Maybe more (couldn't hear properly)

Wish they had a better commentating or more knowledgeable team in the booth, such a waste.

Haha that hand was great. I've not really watched any televised poker for years now but that got me tempted to get back into some.

I imagine there is loads of history and levelling about live tells and declaring hands between these players.
