In a different era yes - two years before Black Friday. I didn't notice him in ads or promotions, but maybe he was exclusively promo'd in Canada & icy northern European countries.

If you see how Brazilians play you can understand why their economy is so terrible. Actually it's the same with Greece. They are probably two of the most button clicking fish infested countries on earth so it's a good idea to promote there.

The problem is that it's so hard for new players to run it up and actually make some money. Back in the day you could luck box a huge win in a cash game or tournament and get hooked (and subsequently your friends who will deposit after you brag to them after cashing for a couple thousand). But now the player pools are tougher and strategies are more widely shared. Players that come in and have no clue how to play a 20bb stack for example have absolutely no chance at ever making a run.

Idea for pokerstars to improve the ecosystem:

Give the Neymar/ Ronaldo accounts a pay rise

Pay the money into account, a bit like a first deposit bonus, make them have to do a meet some playthrough requirements

=they turn into a couple of losing whales,

Loose enough and they have a high enough disposable income to redeposit.

Use this model to recruit many more sportswhales.
