I'm sure that this happens all the time in live tournaments whether it's non malicious or malicious but people probably just assume they miscounted prior.

That is some great video. First, Lee Jones talking about the importance of having staff to ensure a good clean game and why players shouldn't have to police themselves. Cut to tournament staff telling Jason that he should have stayed to observe the color up if he wanted to make sure it was done correctly. Oh, and that there are no cameras for security because it would cost too much to install them. Sigh.

(Oh, and then Lee talks about how the Stars sportsbook is going to start taking bets on online events, because giving the same people who run a poker tournament a financial interest in the outcome of the event *definitely* won't cause any problems)

At a live tourney last Thursday, you are instructed to leave leave your addon under your chips. You get 6000 for $40. they never put my addon chips on my stack, they are sitting right in front.

three players at my table notice that their stack wasn't right. Two seemed to be missing the whole 6000. one just thought his stack was short two thousand. That dude is an idiot, I've played with him enough to assume he likely never counted his chips. they never brought him any chips, and he didn't complain.

they did give the lady her 6K, but I don't know if they reviewed the camera, or just assumed she didn't get the chips. If I made it into the money, I would have counted the chips in play and compared them to what there should be, which is easy to do just looking at the prize pool.


Apparently the TD had a rack of yellow, but ran out before completing all the addons. Likely got distracted, and forgot to bring all the chips.

Anyway, I almost always count my chips, don't remember getting shorted or every having chips stolen.

I've seen many honest mistakes occur when split pots are botched by inexperienced or lazy dealers. Most but not all the time the mistakes are caught by a player and corrected.

I'm thinking that the guy who took the chips and put them back just prove how easy it was to do that is lucky he didn't get DQed.

These tournaments were not played in the casino proper, but in function rooms in the same building. The OP quoted floor as saying that tournament profits would be hit, which is clearly true - setting up a system of temporary cameras in a function room would be a tall order.

The tournaments are not run by casino staff, but by the regular Stars floor staff, and the usual international group of dealers who tour most of the big events, so national bias is unlikely to be a factor. I expect there were a number of additional Spanish dealers recruited, but probably not that many.

FWIW, I have played many tournaments run by people like Toby Stone, Nick O'Hara, etc, who were heavily involved in the series, and I have always considered them to set the bar for well-run tournaments. I am disappointed that this particular issue seems to have been poorly handled, but I think it would be wrong to leave the impression that the overall event is badly run.

Oh wow! This is really bad for game integrity for sure. Highly unethical!

A little story from 2-3 years ago.I was playing a UKIPT season 3 i think it was Newcastle. I was sitting at a table and it was obvious to me that the dealer was very good friends of one of the players at our table. I definitely caught the dealer giving too much change to the player twice, I mean i really saw it. At break i went to Toby and stated what i saw as i didnt want to get into it at the table with the player and dealer and Toby said he would look into it. When I came back off that break there were 2 players at our table who stated that they were missing 5K chip each and i swear that the guy had more chips than i thought he should have(difficult to be 100%i know). Both him and the dealer were all "dont know what ur talkin bout" but since that day i always counted my stack and been obvious about it. The dealers while being mostly good are human.

In 16 UKIPT events there has only been this one instance that i have seen this sort of thing but I did see it happening.

Well, shady things keep happening in Barcelona and it is a shame because of the great location, plus what a massive event it is for live poker.

PokerStars must take responsibility (even though the Casino operates on itself I think) and reply to the players that are harmed and prevent it from happening again. #dotherightthing
