It's not 50 pages yet because we've heard this song and dance before. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I wouldn't bet the farm on US sites getting up and running in 2012 in a significant way. It's entirely possible that no federal legislation passes, and we end up with poker expanding on a slow, state-by-state basis, in which case it could still be years before the majority of us get online poker in our home state.

Obviously I hope that's not the case, but I think maybe all the years of 2+2 hyping up good news only to see it go nowhere have left me a bit cynical.

All of this. I believe that it will happen. I will keep tweeting, commenting, writing my congresspeople etc. I am committed. But I am also past getting excited every time someone in a suit says something positive. We've been down that road before.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, keep your head down and keep moving.

I, too, think it's coming, but it's not time to jerk off yet.
True, true, and true. But the guy in that video looked like he had the stone cold nuts, whereas in past Loveman videos he seemed like he had flush draw at best. Maybe he bluffed me, but I really think he has the goods and Loveman just turned his flush.

depends on the legislation that goes through D.C. Hopefully it will be a federal issue and the states don't get their hands on it.

some likely candidates: nevada, california, florida, new jersey, louisiana

Think about this people...

1. Deposits being instant, cashouts processed in 2 hours or less. No waiting time to get cash.

2. Marketing arm of Caesars and MGM. All of the people with players cards getting email invites to play poker online. Trips to Vegas/AC with reward points.

3. American player sign ups will be steady and will grow at huge rates during the WSOP if legal by then. Caesars and WSOP will just be a constant advertisement for WSOP.com for playing online.

I know people keep saying I will believe it when I see it. But when you have the VP of MGM and Loveman of Caesars being soooo vocal. They are setting the table for online poker and it's acceptance nationwide. No one in the government is going to deny tax revenue for federal government esp. if Nevada, California gets sites up and running.

Pokerstars is great and will do well in Europe and Asia. But the new sites in the US will be full of fish and multi-accounting will become extremely difficult with regulation requiring age and SS verification on wins or site signups. That will get much more casual gamblers to play because they will not feel online poker is "rigged" anymore.

My prediction is the circuit events, WPT, and WSOP will become huge in the US in 2013. The series will have massive entrants with satellites online for all events.
+1

February will definitely be an interesting month as far as legislation goes. Murren looked and sounded extremely confident that poker legislation would be passed this year. I know that he has motives for promoting it as MGM will have a site up and running as soon as legislation is passed, but it really seemed like he KNEW for a fact that it is going to happen. I'm sure he is well connected with numerous congressmen and lobbying groups so I'm pretty excited to see how this all unfolds.

Louisiana will definitely be one of the last. Multiple tribes, racetracks, the lottery, truckstop casinos, not to mention corporate interests(most of which would not be able to compete).

Penn National Gaming has the Hollywood in BR(M Resort CEO[PNG owned] has come out against Igaming)
Isle of Capri Casinos are in loads of debt and their stock price has dropped to near 2008 crash levels.
Tropicana Entertainment already filed for bankruptcy 2 years ago
Pinnacle Enteratinment is actually doing alright financially compared to the above 3 and they aren't going to want any extra competetion

Boyd and Caesars also have their foot in the door here, but not enough to overcome all of the other interests.

Edit
Forgot about Jesus

Here in Georgia, there's no way it'll happen. Gov Nathan Deal is anti gambling and will likely be gov for another 7 years. Also the state lottery commission will never let it happen. Can't wait to move to Florida some day.

I'm right there with you, buddy. I'm just waiting for CA or FL to get online poker and I'm moving.

I think it is coming in 2012 but this video doesn't change much for me. Last summer Gary Loveman said federal ipoker would get done by the end of 2011.

My opinion:

Outcome #1- No federal bill: 3-5 states have online poker done end of 2012 and games that should be up and running by mid 2013

Outcome #2- federal bill: 30+ states "opt in" to a federal interstate regulatory scheme and games are up sometime early 2013.

I would love option #2, but we are pretty much guaranteed option number 1 at least!
