Cliffs:
MGM CEO Says ruling by DOJ on the wire act applying only to sports opens the doors to legislation at the state and federal level. He hopes that it will come at the federal level where it can be best applied, but if not he expects a domino effect of all states passing legislation to allow online poker. Bottom line, Poker in 2012 regardless.

When it comes to timing the market, I wouldn't count on MGM management.

lemme state the facts here: stars is the nuts, always has been always will be, if online is legal and regulated and allowed in the states again, will stars be allowed to come back? If not, then who gives a damn about legalised poker in the USA?

I'm happy here on merge doing fine, dont really wanna play elsewhere except if STARS came back, but how can STARS come back IF THEY BROKE SERIOUS LAWS? I DONT SEE IT HAPPENING! IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE!!?!?

Stars is the gold standard for internet poker. They paid us, even when under indictment and their website was hijacked by DOJ. But this next round will be dominated by corporate LV gambling. I hope they get it right.

Speechless. (Collecting thoughts) Stars isn't coming back to U.S. and Merge will be a joke in comparison to new, regulated U.S. sites.

the new sites will be so fishy that stuff like software quality and customer service will become serious #WhitePeopleProblems.

if you really still care about the glory of playing on pokerstars just nit it up at 2/4nl on the new "legal" sites for 6 months and buy a mansion in mexico to retire in.

I'm actually kinda confused why no big new sites haven't sprung up already. The DOJ basically gave the go ahead and no one's taking advantage of an open US market? Do I understand this wrong?

Because we've heard this 1000x and it's meaningless at this point.

Love how the MGM CEO wants it done at the federal level since many states will want nothing to do with Vegas casinos.

There will for sure be online poker this year, because Nevada already passed a bill last year. Licenses for intrastate IPoker will go out in Feb.

The DoJ has said the Wire Act doesn't make anything other than sports betting illegal. There is still the IGBA and UIGEA. With those the DoJ can still enforce state laws(like they did with BF). This doesn't really help offshore sites that much. States are still going to say that IPoker is illegal in their borders no matter what, and if there was some kind of court ruling that said otherwise, there would simply be legislation passed to correct it. Non-US sites will be seen as illegal until there is a law saying they are allowed.

This opens the door for state legislation and state to state pooling without having to worry about the DoJ getting involved.

Aside from the cashout issues merge isn't that bad.

Fragmentation, states opting out, lack of international players, and dealing with monopolies are problems we don't even have currently.

We need strong federal legislation that encourages states to participate and allows everyone to compete. Unfortunately I think we will be going down the state lottery path.

I'm everyone in wyoming is super excited.
