Right real stupid logic... I see plenty of people who LIVE in Las Vegas (as I do) riding around on the strip in cabs going from hotel to hotel when they own their own vehicles. LOL I think the people waiting at the bus stops also have cars at home too right? My thought was if he was drinking and partying maybe he didnt want to be driving or maybe he just didnt want to deal with the traffic and finding new parking spots.. Anyways, typical for a few hateful, disrespectful replies to come in. Glad I dont blog much with you people. Some of us have a life without having to hate on others. Good luck at the tables =)

Good luck with finding that and then a legal ground for claiming it back. Is it really any different to dropping $10 in the street then asking for it back?
To the first paragraph - The cameras in the casino would likely know who stepped into the cab. If you're implying the cabbie could call a friend to sit in the cab and take the money, then there would be a phone record minimum.

To the second paragraph - Yes, far different. The police and lawyers involved in the two cases ranges from "non existent" with the $10 to "the best in the business" with the $300k.

--

10k seems solid, it was the # I was thinking when reading this personally. The poster that said up to 5% being reasonable also makes sense. I think less than 5k is pretty damn stingy given how easy the cabbie made it for the player to get this back quickly and without any additional stress. Solid cab driver, he played it right, most +EV thing for him to do $$$ wise, and morally obviously too.

I just assumed Ben Lamb is already broke. I've watched the videos of his spending habits. Yikes.

So if the next passenger comes in and finds said bag of money and takes it. Are they stealing from me? From the taxi company? Or they're not based on the premise of 'Possession is nine-tenths of the law' making my legal position difficult to defend.
I certainly don't know the answer to this. But I have heard one anecdotal story that a guy sold his van (with a legally owned gun) in the car. He didn't realize the gun was in the car, and tried to get it back, but couldn't. He went to the police and the police said that it was theft of the gun if it wasn't returned. Purely anecdotal.

This was all a publicity stunt for Vegas to bring ppl in on the holidays. It worked out well. Looks like they received local and national coverage.

The truth is, the cabbie got leveled: he thought this was a part of some reality TV show and figured he better "do the right thing". If he KNEW that this was what it really was, we'd have different results.

Right now, he's thinking "damn, $11k & a dinner when I could have kept the entire $300k and still had a shot at the dinner + DotY award".

And how about the OTHER driver who busted his ass all year long for the DotY award, had a virtual lock with a week left, only to be passed by this clown who "did the right thing" and stole the award from him...

That's a legal sale of a vehicle and all it's contents, however. The seller had the onus of ensuring that nothing was left behind that they wanted prior to sale.

With a cab ride, you're buying a service, the cabbie isn't buying you as the passenger. Your property is still yours even if you accidentally forget it in the cab.

Legally AFAIK the property IS STILL YOURS if you forget it or accidentally drop it. IF you lose something valuable and can prove someone else has it, your case will stand up. Of course, being able to prove it is quite difficult if a dishonest person (ie: several of the people from this thread apparently) end up involved in the equation.

Yes, but the guy he sold the van to was considered by the law to have stolen the gun if refusing to return it to the owner. Maybe you didn't read the anecdote correctly. Maybe I am mis-reading what you are trying to say here. Maybe I mis-typed the anecdote.

Cantor has an operating problem in that they cannot hedge one-sided risk from those large bets, generally placed by some sharp guys, and take it in the shorts when they fail to do so ..... They need the ability to act beyond Nevada's borders to balance risk in what is a worldwide market, but they are hamstrung by ...... (ta, da) the very Wire Act that supports their business model within Nevada.

Kind of ironic for The Wolf of Las Vegas.

Nope, my fail completely, I misread you.

And I'm not convinced the police were correct - police are not lawyers (mind you neither am I) and are sometimes (frequently) wildly wrong on matters of law. Although in this case the law may have been on the gun owners side ONLY because gun sales are heavily regulated and thus perhaps could not legally have been sold via that means ergo no sale.

So you are one of those who likes to argue for the sake of it lol.

Why would the law be written in a way as if you accidentally leave a valuable item in a car sale, that you should lose possession of it due to a mistake. You must never make mistakes. How could anyone be so stupid to make a simple mistake like that. ****ing delusional you are bro.
