“My God, this is cash money,” said Gamboa, a Checker Cab driver for 13 years.

This is correct. Even if the passenger that lost the money was stone drunk and didn't remember the cab company the odds of figuring out who the driver was are at 99%. Cabbies have to keep trip sheets. Casinos have cameras even in valet areas etc. Insides of cabs have cameras in them etc. There's just almost no way to get away with it.

They were expecting perhaps chocolates. Are we supposed to be leaving chocolates behind in cabs?

Player gets in taxi, leaves money inside and gets out. Driver goes back to his pickup point, collects another passenger who spots a brown bag and looks inside and finds money. Passenger keeps quiet and takes the bag with him.

Good luck with finding that and then a legal ground for claiming it back. Is it really any different to dropping $10 in the street then asking for it back?

$300k is life changing money for 99% of the population. There seems to be an inordinate amount of people on this site that are opposed to wire transfers, checking accounts and other standard methods of capital transfer.

Walking around with that much cash is just an disaster waiting to happen.

If you are too drunk/drugged/stupid to hang on to it, then maybe you deserve to lose it.

pretty sure if you walked out of a casino in the US with $300k, the powers that be already know who you are, where you live, where you are going and who you are going with.

You're dreaming if you think just because you deal in cash you are invisible to the rest of the world.

Love all these people saying the driver was stupid, the player deserved to lose it, etc.

I can't believe your tune would be the same if it was them losing the money.

A++ to the driver for being an honest fellow.

I appreciate his honesty, but how many of those same people would go off and 'forget' $300k laying in the seat of a cab? I would have that bag in a mortal headlock that could only be undone by death itself.

When a lion loses his kill to a pack of hyenas, does anyone feel sorry for the lion?

In the casino case, yes.

If we're talking about wire transfers, checking accounts etc. then it makes things a lot more difficult to trace if dealing in cash.

People who aren't good with money to begin with won't magically become good with it when you infuse them with an overabundance of it.

Check into the bankruptcy statistics on lottery winners, for hard evidence.

Having this cash would so much. You could move into a nice apartment and pay rent with cash.

Idk what'd do cause i've flund wallets before and returned them but 300k i might take it idk. finders keepers, if you walk around with 300k and lose it you deserve it

Does anyone have a link to an article or thread in which Tuan Le was carrying $1,000,000 with him in an airplane ride from Foxwoods to the West Coast?

I believe Barry Greenstein talked about this. I'm not sure if he got detained or not.

Once his identity was verified, YCS turned the cash over to the player, who asked to see Gamboa to shake his hand. He told Gamboa he planned to reward him and got his contact information.

He's a stiff 100%. Which coincides with so many poker players with a BR that big or bigger.

With those mad math skillz I want to play poker against you

And LOL at all of you putting down the cab driver for being honest. Apart from it just being the right thing to do, it wouldn't have been hard for the rightful owner to track him down once he realized the money had been lost.

who was the poker player? gotta be a pretty short list that can be whittled down. "prominent poker player", leaving cosmo to Palms with 300K?

also, want to know how much he have the cabbie? (please be more than
$10K, I mean it's Christmas).

Cabbie would have never been able to keep the money, but at least he didn't even try, as many others would have stupidly tried. So pretty honest gesture that shouldn't go unnoticed.

So please Mr. or Mrs forgetful poker player loosing 300K....

"pay the man hiz maney" and let this story have a happy ending... like when Tiny Tim gets a big turkey instead of a little turkey at the end of a Christmas Carol
