I have nothing to prove it, but have every reason to believe Boyd (Borgata) had much more "say" in this than anyone...

The wheels of justice turn slowly...

A link in some other thread told about Isai's private jets flying around any countries with extradition treaties with the USA, concerned there might be an emergency landing. He must be scared to death of going to jail.

Anti-competitive imo, pokerstars delivers the best product and they know it. The DOJ should had dropped charges against Isai Scheinberg months ago, it's a waste of tax payers money.

It hurts Stars too. Having Isai's legal problems hanging over their heads might ultimately might cost them 100's of millions.

Get it over with. Throw yourself under the bus! ...then relax for a few months in Club Fed.

This interview that Marco Valerio did with Director of New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement David Rebuck may have been a forewarning to this decision.....

"As a regulator, I don’t like to be in a position of killing a company unless I can show that the leadership, the tentacles of leadership are such that they have unduly influenced the operation of the company so that no matter who you take out, you can’t correct the problems that you’ve identified."

if true say goodbye to NJ being a online poker leader. This plus New York getting 7 las vegas style casinos will put the nail in the coffin for New Jersey gaming.

here's the question & answer pertaining directly to pokerstars in its entirety

Quote:
Valerio: On the subject of it moving quickly, with regard to the dates you just mentioned, let’s suppose that I wanted to keep track of a particular applicant. Now, being from the poker community I won’t deny that a lot of us have a special interest in PokerStars. Leaving completely aside any speculation over whether what’s going to happen with their application, how soon, be it for PokerStars or any other applicant who still has not received their approval, should we have an idea how they can proceed?

Rebuck: Well, certainly you’ll have a good sense by the 26th. Actually, by the 21st, but again, just because a company has not been approved by that date doesn’t mean they’re going to be denied. They may still owe us more information, they may not have completed our work and I’m going to have to tell them, “I can’t get it done.”

I would say that anybody who is not going to make it, you more than likely will find that out from the company themselves because you’ll see a situation very similar to what you just saw in Massachusetts where the company that is being evaluated withdraws from the process. That’s a common action in the gaming world.

Now, they may withdraw because they just don’t want to deal with you anymore and they figure that regulators are being unreasonable, they may withdraw because they see the handwriting on the wall, or they may withdraw because they don’t think there’s a business opportunity here for them anymore where they can make money. So I don’t want people to believe that a withdrawal automatically connotes that the company has findings of unsuitability because that’s not true.

More than likely, if we have the ability to do so, when you look at these companies, you look at the individuals who are running them to see if they have the right character, suitability, and what are the tentacles of the leadership as such that it taints the whole company, or if it’s such you just cut out the person and they get replaced by somebody who is of good character and honesty and integrity.

As a regulator, I don’t like to be in a position of killing a company unless I can show that the leadership, the tentacles of leadership are such that they have unduly influenced the operation of the company so that no matter who you take out, you can’t correct the problems that you’ve identified.

I think history will show that in New Jersey, a lot of times the person will divest their interest. They’ll leave the industry. They’ll separate themselves, or they’ll just take the company out and say, “We’re not dealing with you guys anymore. We can’t live under this oppressive oversight.” Okay, it’s their decision. That’s where we are.

Can someone please explain to me what criminal charges Isai Scheinberg is facing? I haven't followed anything involving Black Friday lately but I thought Isai cleared everything up with the DOJ after paying a big fine and taking over Full Tilt.

Link maybe?

Thanks!

The DOJ's criminal case versus Isai Scheinberg (and Paul Tate) is still ongoing. When Stars settled their civil case with the DOJ, Isai was ordered to step down, and he did. However, the Atlantic Club (the casino PokerStars tried to buy then sued) has alleged that Isai was involved in the negotiations during the deal. LINK

If the PPN report is true (still unconfirmed), then the above is likely what the DGE has some issues with IMO.

Criminal case is basically about messing around with banks so they would continue to process customer money transfers. Fraud and money laundering.
Isai failed to appear in court and is considered a fugitive..

Totally absurd that Isai basically saved all of the FTP American players from not getting their money and the DOJ from looking like the bad guys and yet he's still considered a bad guy by the DOJ

well ... casinos tried to bully PS out of NJ before, so it's not a huge surprise, if the rumors are true ... i hope(d) PS will make the cut, though

anyway: if bwin.parts get a license, the DGE had failed and it's proven (again), that this lobbying system is way too corrupt

DGE will post today the updated list of "authorized Internet Gaming Ancillary Companies and Internet Gaming Related Vendor" ... idk if they also update the Internet Gaming Sites, too

Doing "good" things doesn't erase the bad things you've done.

Well, I guess we shouldn't have expected NJ to open up online gambling just to let Pokerstars take the business. No? Not

Subject to all required internet gaming permits and licenses being granted by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

Doesn't that mean they already got this license?

Casinos are in the business of gambling. Online poker is a way for them to increase profit and enter the online industry. Casinos can't compete with a site that has a 15 year head start on development and an established worldwide grip on the player pool.

So Casino owners lobbied D.C. to crack down on them and clear the way. They will never be allowed to enter the US market and if they ever do it will be years from now. We the consumer are at the mercy of the US Casinos who want to make money off us.

Ya just because we won't get stars online gambling will fail. Last time I checked partypoker is a pretty good site. Also last time I checked the causal player which is the main target who doesn't read boards or nut hug stars really doesn't care. If anything they have a negative view of stars. Grinders are gonna play no matter what, it's all about how they market it. I have tons of friends who Come to AC once in a while and play poker. When they leave they never think about poker again, nevermind read a forum. If borgata has a poker site they trust them and will play on their site. It's not a big deal stars is out

I suggest a thread title change ASAP before this thread goes way off track. The article claims that PokerStars won't be in the first round of licenses come November 21/26. Not that they were rejected. It's a bit confusing ("thwarted" in the headline is misleading imo) but read the text of the article carefully.

That's a very different. That they won't be there are the opening gates is far from surprising.
