Re: Grinders moving to Vancouver

Vancouver rocks. My friend just came back from Montreal for a wedding and he was complaining about the heat being 30C+ and humid, and being eaten alive by mosquitoes and black flies. The temperate climate here is awesome. Summer if comfortable but not scorching hot, and we don't have as many annoying bugs that like eat people.

I grew up in Ontario and remember summer being so hot you wished it was winter, and the winter is so ****ing cold you wished it was summer. Fall and spring are the only good seasons out East.
I love the temperature being 20-25C in the summer most of the time.

Re: Grinders moving to Vancouver

Cin Cin on Robson is pretty damn good for upscale.

Montri Thai used to be amazing on Broadway but they sold out and changed the name. Haven't been back since so I don't know if it's any good any more. Used to be at Alma and Broadway so those living in the UBC area might want to check it out.

I'm out near Coquitlam and Kefi is very good greek food. Lougheed and Schoolhouse, although it's a long hike from downtown for most I'll bet.

By far the best food in this town is Chinese (all variants you can think of) and Japanese, though. If it involves seafood it gets done right.

Ryanblan, I'm 99% sure I used to game with you at Screenguild. Ring any bells?

Agreed, best pizza is @ this new place on Keefer Place (near the Edgewater) called Verace Pizzeria, upscale casual Neapolitan place, imo

As to the temperate climate...well...be prepared for lots of drizzle, the summer well and makes up for the depressing winters, its just grey and drizzles all day long, not even real thunderstorms (and Vancouver does have Whistler right near by so that's a huge plus as well), but imo I'll take NY or Ontario winters over Vancouver winters any day...then again, I LOVE the cold, and take a look at my handle

No way, best pizza is still Nat's Pizza on denman. New York style. Amazing. Although the best pizza ever is La Fiamma in Bellingham. Not too far from Van and well worth the drive.

Nat's is pretty subpar imo, but beats out every other chain, Verace is sit-down neapolitan and made really well, will take it over nats any day (not the correct price point, so don't eat there as often as I do nats, but its still better za).

Best pizza ever...idk, but i know i had it in NYC, there're just too many choices

Other draws are hockey, fireworks, beaches and great music festivals. And if you're into u/SS rioting it's the place to be - but if you're a MS/HS rioter then London >>> Vancouver.

Re: Grinders moving to Vancouver

yo guys

considering this is the food thread

i just went to beentoo today and i'd have to say it's probably some of the best food you can get sub $10... for $5 i had a spicy korean chicken burger thing and it was delicious
http://www.beentoo.ca/

uncle faith's pizza is alright, $4.50 for 2 slices and a pop is good, usually fresh

chronic taco is good enough too. service is slow but for ~$8 you can get more food then you could eat

****ing food threads

north van spots:
la gallaria in edgemont village is amazing. such awesome sandwiches... they run out daily.

moodyvilles on first + lonsdale has good enough all day breakfast. (sweet art bakery for munchies which is right beside it)

honeys doughnuts in the cove is tasty donuts

la zuppa and Red chilli on lonsdale

Re: Grinders moving to Vancouver

It seems obvious enough now, but when choosing vacation spots and where to live food is definitely a top priority (well food, nightlife and poker and im set).

As to opinion as fact, there was a cursory IMO in there , not that I meant it in the slightest. If you remember teh Food Madness comp from a few months ago, y'all see how much i love my food...well I might as well have an altar to pizza in my room and as every good NYer will tell you it is a fact that NY pizza is the best, not an opinion

Although this is a pretty awesome thread as I now have 5 or 6 new places to try in the next month which'll be great, something new is always nice, so TY everyone for the suggestions, despite how ornery I've been about my food in this thread.

Elbow room is good for atmosphere and the novelty about getting abused by the waiter during your meal, but there are better places for breakfast. Sophies, Tomahawk etc.

Sysco is a food wholesaling company where many of the chain places all get their food from. The theory is that it's pre-packaged crap that you can only go so far with in making quality food.
