also if you wanna meet some cool people try having some drinks at the samesun backpacker lodge/bar on granville. always wild, tons of young travelling types, super cheap drinks and the food is alright. you will make a new set of friends every time you go.

Has anyone created a blog on their experience in Canada? besides the poker, I'm curious what people think of the country. Are there things about the US you miss in Canada? Is anything better here?

If anyone has visited a doctor or hospital, how does it compare?

Never been to Palki's, but I was at Vij's last week, and it was astonishing. Great place.

I am from the US (Vermont), but am a dual Canadian citizen (brag). I do miss some VT specific things, but the benefits outweigh the losses 10-1.

I have lived in the US, UK, Canada and parts of Europe and for me Canada is the winner outright.

Health care is top notch (I would dare anyone with real life experience to deny this), people are beyond friendly and the culture of Vancouver can't be beat.

I have personally never had any problem with the Canadian health care system compared to the 6K a year i dropped on US health insurance.

It is considerably more expensive than living in parts of the US, but I really think it is worthwhile.

Despite what happens in the future I can't see going back to the US. Life is simply better in Canada imo. I have transitioned from full time play to using my poker-paid-for education to actually do something with my time during daylight hours and Vancouver (BC in general) is great for "feel good" work. I develop on-farm energy resources, don't have to dress up for anyone, get to meet and work with great farmers/real world people and still get to play as much poker as I can fit in. I can't imagine living this life across the border with the current state of the economy.

Edit: NO SARAH PALIN HERE!

Lived a couple buildings over when I first got here in January. Best city I have ever lived including London, NYC (I know, flame on) and Prague.

Edge on Wednesday gets good sometimes though maybe not during WCOOP

I was always happy at Lamplighter, Shark Club, or The Charles. But I'm a simple man with simple needs. A comfortable seat, the game, a beer, and some food is all I need.

The key is having enough TVs to ensure the Proper Game (PG) was being shown. More than once a quick venue change to one of the three listed above was necessary to see the PG.

Shanks sports grill at the new west STARLIGHT casino, has probably the most tv's per sports bar in Metro Vancouver.

Went to Bishops for Anniversary last night. Wait was a bit long, but they certainly know how to make some fine eats at that place.

This is also the best North American city for late night Pho satisfaction.

Richmond late night after River Rock sessions has its perks.

Much more expensive than the states, yes. But that's because of taxes. In terms of those two being the only places to drink good beer in Vancouver, that is just wrong. There are lots of pubs and bars that are moving more and more to craft beer. Some places off the top of my head to drink good beer in Vancouver that isn't Alibi or The Whip:

- St. Augustines (most taps in the city)
- BierCraft
- Rogue Wet Bar
- Granville Room
- Steamworks
- Mark James Brewpubs (some are better than others)
- Irish Heather
- Pretty much any pub on Main St or Commercial
etc, etc

With that said, Alibi is easily the best even though St. Augustines does have more taps.

The G Sports Bar on Granville (next to Two Parrots) is hands down the best bar in the lower mainland for an NFL fan. I had given up hope before stumbling across it one day and now I'm there every sunday.

finally ran hot @ Edgewater... won $675 in 2 hours of 1-2 then won a $38-buyin STT (11 players) directly afterwards and have a seat in the $300+30 NLHE tourney on September 24th. Good night.

Pretty sick hand for the biggest pot I've won there ($850)... a reg opens in EP, two callers in MP, I have 9hTh on the button and call, SB calls. ~$75 in the pot. Flop is 6h7h4x so I have flush draw and gutter. EP reg Cbets for $45 so I know he has an overpair. One fold, MP2 calls. I have seen MP2 play his good draws fast twice so I put him on a worse draw than mine, probably open-ended, 55 most likely. I raise to 145 with my flush draw & gutshot assuming the reg is decent enough to fold his overpair, even if he doesn't I have 12 outs. Out of nowhere the SB cold-calls the 145. EP reg calls too. MP re-pushes all in for about 50 more. Was thinking I might be ****ed; called the 50, obv bet the $5 I had left in the dark on the turn which was a brick. River... beautiful Ace of hearts, I show my flush and take the main + both sidepots vs a made straight, an overpair and a set. Wish I could scream "TAKE MANEY/ THE F DO".

I love stories like this... Glad to see some grinders moving out here, this is easily the best city in Canada. Expensive but worth it, although the pizza here SUCKS! See you guys at the tables.

I hadn't seen nanonoko online at all since black friday, but today I see him logged on with location 'canada'. So I guess the number one grinder also made the move.
