Been to both and King makes a better shawarma.

I will say i've never had falafel at either tho, the spices they use for the chicken are tooooo good.

Adam, your avatar makes me sad

The elbow room kind of sucks, and it isn't because of the novelty. I just thought it wasn't very good. There are definitely better places.

Got no monies and you want a big stuffed homemade-style turkey sammich? Go to the Food Fair at 530 Hornby Street. When you walk up the three steps it's the first place on your right, it has a Mexican name (which I forget) and a Chinese or Korean couple working there. Don't go at noon or you will be in line for 20 minutes.

Best sandwich downtown imo is Bambo Cafe in Gastown. It's kitty corner to The Cambie.

Sophie's is good and a Kits tradition - I went to high school with the sons of the owners (who are both recreational poker players) - but often you will have to wait a fair bit to get served during peak times such as weekend brunches.

Kent's kitchen in Chinatown on Keefer if you need a massive meal for $5.40. I recommend chow mein and beef broc + sweet sour pork. Easily 2 meals if you arent starving.

This is another place I don't get. When I lived in the Kits I went for breakfast and dinner. Both meals were nothing special and the apple pie was awful. They seem to think that, if you make the portions huge, that makes them good. Wrong! People wait forever to get in for brunch. Why??? There was another place just a short walk away that was much better and no line.

lol. This is something I've always found amusing. Living here my whole life, I've definitely noticed is that a large portion of Vancouver's immigrated population will do ANYTHING for a free show or larger portion. Seems a ton of them can only justify spending money for quantity... not quality. I'm sure the immigrated population is well over 50% of the GVA now too. India and China.... UNITE IN VANCOUVER!

What did you guys think of the fireworks that happened last week? I'm sure a lot of you were like WTF is going on after it was going for it's 2nd and 3rd time.

Just got into Vancouver yesterday. Played at Edgewater and out of a full table, at least 5 fish. 1 3bet in maybe 60 hands. To those saying you can get a furnished place in Yaletown for <2k per month, please let me know. Cheapest 2BR+office/3BR (which is what I need) I could find downtown was $3500 (furnished, of course). Anyways, I'd be down for dinners/pokers, etc.

Who cares if a gangster was killed? That guy probably broke the law and hurt many people.
I hate criminals. I hope his testicles were kicked in until they ruptured, before he was murdered.

Sounds like you do care quite a bit. Happened outside a casino, thought it was relevant enough to post as an FYI

He and his brothers are quite notorious. They had a documentary on BC gang violence do a segment on the brothers. They aren't even street kids that grew up on welfare, the family is middle class with their dad teaching at the local high school in their neighbourhood.

All this talk about Vancouver and no one has said they're further east? I've lived in the Surrey/Langley area my whole life and can't stand down town. We don't have to pay for parking, 30min Skytrain if we need to go downtown. Cascades Casino in Langley has the juiciest Pineapple game. Rich farmers with deep pockets and no clue what they're doing.
We don't have the night life that Vancouver has but it's not so bad on the other side of the bridge. Takes me 30-45min to drive to Edgewater or 25min to River Rock and 15min to Starlight in New West and Boulevard if the game in Langley isn't what I want.
Plus it's cheaper to buy. I don't think I can justify going back to paying someone else's mortgage but that's not a reality for me in Vancouver.
Regardless, where do these Vancouver meet ups get posted?

I don't think that is Sophie's crowd. It's more of a yuppy group that could afford to eat anywhere and, for some unknown reason, think it's cool to eat there.

Very wonderful burgers there! Also, if you want a really good butcher shop, a half block east and on the other side of the street is Cioffi's, great quality meat and good prices. My buddies sometimes get together on Sundays to grind tourneys and grill steak, this is where I stop on my way there.

Im in Abbotsford, and for me it's 25 min. to Cascades in Langley, and 25 min. to Nooksack Casino on Mt. Baker($3 rake, comps, cheap beer and gas).

Also If you like lo limit, limit holdem Slo Pitch pub in Bellingham is a 30 min. Drive from Langley/Aldergrove. It's across the road from Bellis Fair mall. http://www.slopitchcasino.com/conten...poker_room.asp
