river rock has 5/10 on the weekends, and the stacks are pretty deep, like 1500 min, 10k max, there are many rich asian degen ballers that just love to play in them too, the 1/2 games are super duper soft, you can easily turn it into a 1/2/5 game, and destroy the flop monkeys tbh

lol @ the debate on Vancouver being the nuts.

This city is solid gold. I live in Kits and it is the best neighborhood I have found by far (Fairview also dope). 10 min to Edge for Wed night games, 15 to the Rock, 2 hours to Seattle for real football games (ya I know it is the Seahawks). This is like heaven.

This is one of the worlds best city's no doubt. The only real downside is its rains ALOT Oct-May. If don't let that bother you then you'll love living here.

I too live in NV and go to edgewater quit a bit.

PLO games at Edgewater are like free money just FYI if you ever feel like a night out, $5-$5 is probably like microstakes to you but the players are terrible and the stacks are deep. Saw a guy call $1000 on the river w/ one pair. Lots of old gamblers who will put their $3000 stack in with a king high flush draw etc. etc.

BCPC is up on the River Rock site now. Should be easy to fill the 550 person cap on the 3K if a lot of ppl end up moving here.

Ive been in Van for a bit now, food is pretty corporate and crap compared to what I was used to, but it's a pretty solid city otherwise (I live around UBC/Kits so spend most of my off time on beaches, which is one of the best things about van, theres always a beach nearby).

Play at the edge alot, if you play there im the gregarious talkative young guy who sucks at cash games and breaks even (although srsly). Anyone who wants info on Kits/UBC areas or granville strip nightlife questions feel free to PM me, im also down to talk poker or just drink and meet up with 2+2ers @ UBC there is nearly no poker scene (at least that I've found).

I need to move to Canada and grind, thought about it after BF now leaning towards it more.

I went to school (graduated last year) in Erie PA which is not far from Canada at all, still have my apt in Erie, although I'm home back in NJ for now. Thinking about crossing over!

I can vouch for the veracity of this statement.

There's some great restaurants but a lot of the mid-range restaurants are Sysco re-heated garbage.

Wine is a complete ripoff in restaurants. Expect a 150% markup on liquor store prices which are already marked up about 100%.

This, Vancouver has some solid upper end restaurants, but on my budget im not eating at Tojo's, Bishop's or Cardero's every night (some of the very solid upper end places), additionally im from NYC, so food anywhere else is already at a disadvantage in my eyes, but Vancouver food is especially bad for a city.

Ryan is right about middle range food, speaking from experience in the industry most of those middle-budget restraunts/pubs are just sysco crap and all the Gyro/Shwarma/Mediterranean food is crappy compared to any other big city in North America...but for some reason Vancouverites think they're good.

Lastly there are NO good low end food joints anywhere farther West than Cambie.

EDIT: Although working in the industry its hard to complain about liquor markups, thats the only profit margin most restaurants have in this city and liquor laws are such that a huge markup is necessary.

lol North Van. Getting home from downtown after 1am = $30 cab ride or failbus. Kitsilano and south Granville are better imo.

no one really ever comes to Vancouver and leaves saying they didn't like it but i find it annoying just going to a casino to play live, although the tables are always 420 friendly with most everyone enjoy the sweet smell of kush, def a great city to live in or around though!
