Just like the title says.

His club also fined him €25K saying:

"You might be a private person as a footballer when you are in your bed; at any other point, you are also an employee of the club."

he earns around 5M/year at Wolfsburg + sponsorship deals. imo it would've been smarter to just eat the 75k Euros loss. Going to the police was a PR disaster, and the chances of recovering the money were slim anyway.

I don't get what he did wrong?

Poker is legal in Germany. No mention of any bad behaviour, if he was drinking alcohol he got a taxi rather than drove, its the night after a match not the night before.

If he had left a 75k watch in a taxi on the way back from a shopping trip would he have also been fined?

Agreed. Unless there was more to it than is being reported then it sounds ridiculously harsh by the club to discipline him.

Apparently they had training that morning. Quite the guy - score a hatrick, go to Berlin, win some at the tables, forget it in the back of the cab, training session. No wonder he hardly finds the time to get a hair cut.

Don't think he would do that in order to lose his contract with Wolfsburg.

the same reason sport stars shouldn't be seen in a heads shop in Amsterdam, even they're off for the summer. it's a bad image. i don't say it's fair, but these guys are public figures and some all night gambling spree might be some bad PR.

besides that, he forgot 75k, which shows even the dumbest supporter, that he earns a ton. while i personally don't give a f*** about this, some hard core fan, who struggles to finance his season ticket, might be offended.

so believe it or not, being a sports pro is a ****ty job, because you don't have any minute of privacy. seriously, i think there was even a debate, because he has 'seen women' at his hotel room before an important international match.

@ martenJ: maybe tax reasons, or he thought the story wouldn't be come public ... so his decisions might be +EV after all ^^

It was WSOPE but the Czech poker site says there is no corresponding tournament score so they think its cash game winnings.

Still not as epic as this: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/08/hamm...-for-taxi-home

Hammer thrower wins gold medal, gets drunk, uses it to pay for taxi home

Yeah, this was a couple of years back and probably why he went to Vegas instead of Campo Bahia.

Double standards really. Imagine that with Neuer for example, I doubt he's dropped.

If someone is able to just "lose" 75k bc of not caring, then I do not care for them either.

There's another important question: Is Wolfsburg a real place?

It sounds more like a rejected idea for a children's cartoon.

pretty sure uber isn't illegal in Germany, used a few times in October and I doubt the app/service runs if that's the case. maybe changed recently. but yeah def one of the benefits of uber, tracking which taxi you took if you lose something.. or leave 75k behind apparently

Its ruled illegal. If they continue to operate its vs current law
Would be better for kruse to just drive drunk. Cant lose 75k in your own car

ah, I think it's unlicensed cabs are banned. so the uber system (in Berlin at least) links you to normal cabs, so there's little to no difference other than the convenience of the app. price is exactly the same (possibly tiny bit higher due to CC surcharge).

No doubt Nietzsche is pleased to hear that Uber is still allowed in Germany.

Soccer is originally British universities slang and has been around since Association Football was codified - originally to distinguish it from Rugby football aka rugger. If the Americans didn't say soccer to distinguish it from the football code most popular there, you wouldn't care.
